apartments on an estate near Montefiridolfi, Tuscany Chianti WhenMarch 2002, Three Weeks LocationFonte de' Medici is owned by the Antinori family who are one of the oldest wine families in Italy. They own various properties in this vineyard area which are rentals. Podere Tignanello, which we stayed in, is perched on the top of a hill about 800m from the main reception area. Our apartment had spectacular views and was very quiet. The apartments are about 3km from Montefiridolfi, 15km from San Casciano. Nearby AmenitiesA car is required as the nearest small store is about 3km away. Also the nearest restaurant is at Badia e Passigano which is about 4km away. The House/ApartmentThe building looks old but is quite new. There are about 7 or 8 apartments in the building but the entrances are such that each apartment is private. GardenBeautiful grounds with picnic areas, barbeques, plenty of semi-private seatting and a large herb garden for cooking. There is a pool but it is down by the reception area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasOur apartment was a one bedroom, one bath, kitchen and livingroom (with a hideabed). All of the rooms were quite large and very comfortable. Plenty of comfortable chairs, sofa, tables, TV, and fireplace. The reception area also had a washer and dryer. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bathroom was good. Very large with a hand held shower in the tub. The bed was not particularly comfortable but only because I am used to box springs ... which seem to not exist in Italy. The bedroom had an outside door to the patio and also a large walk in closet. KitchenThe kitchen was small but very workable. A breakfast basket was provided each day (they swept and made the bed also). There were plenty of dishes, glasses and utensils. The oven was wonderful, decent size fridge and a good microwave. Agency and Representatives (and price)Gilberto, the manager was wonderful to deal with. He spoke very good English. The web page reflects the apartment exactly. Note from SlowTrav: This estate is also represented by several agencies. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, I would highly recommend this apartment. You have to want to be in the country and enjoy the quiet. Things to do in this areaWe love San Casciano and the location is close enough to Florence to make the drive quick and easy. There are a bunch of good restaurants close by. Osteria de Passignano and Cantinetta de Rignano where our favorites. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
