Review by rbrazill from US

2bed/2bath apartment on an estate near Lake Garda, Lombardy

July 2005, One week

Monte Pico is located high on a hill overlooking the southern end of Lago di Garda (Desenzano - Lonato). It is at the end of a long dirt driveway and pretty much removed from any other buildings. In the distance one could hear the whirr of cars on the autostrada about 2-3 miles away, but otherwise it was completely private.

Nearby Amenities

There is not much within walking distance. The hilly driveway is about .75 miles and then it is a five minute drive to stores.

The House/Apartment

Although the building appears historical (beautiful stone construction), it is actually less than 10 years old. The rental, which has a separate entrance, is part of a larger building. The owners live in a separate part of the building. There are grounds and a vegetable garden on the premises. The rental was spacious and quiet. If you chose to, you could have absolutely no contact with the owners. You could not see or hear them from the rental. However, it would be a shame not to have contact with them, since they are incredibly friendly and gracious hosts.

There is a sitting area with a marble outdoor table and grill which is exclusively for the guests. There is a pool which is shared with the owners, but we only saw them use it once in the week we were there.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is fairly new and in good shape. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed and the other had two twin beds, which can be moved together. There is a living room with several comfortable chairs and a TV. There is also a dining area and a separate kitchen table. The apartment is very clean and cleaning people come in the middle of the week to clean up while you are out.

The beds were comfortable. The twin beds can be moved together without much difficulty. There were two bathrooms. The master bath had a bathtub, and the second bathroom, which was also a laundry room, had a shower.

The kitchen was spacious with plenty of pots and pans. We cooked two full dinners there without a problem. There is also a small automatic dishwasher which makes life easier. The refrigerator was fairly large by European standards.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners, Ennio and Grazia, are very lovely people. They grow their own vegetables, olives and grapes. They are very knowledgable about the history of the area, and very generous with their knowledge.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agent met us at the train station and we followed her to the villa. She is very familiar with the property and answered all of our questions.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

In a heartbeat. The views were fantastic, especially around sunset. The villa itself was lovely. And I can't say enough about how friendly, interesting and gracious the owners are.

Things to do in this area

Situated at the bottom of the lake, just outside of Desenzano and Sirmione, the villa allows easy access to either side of Lago di Garda. It is also close to the autostrada to either Verona or Milan.
