8bed/6.5bath villa near Lucca, Tuscany North When7/9 - 7/16, 2005, one week LocationVilla Lupo is about 6 km north of the city of Lucca in Tuscany. The villa has beautiful views of the countryside north of the city. The location is on a hilltop with similiar homes surrounded by olive trees and grapevines. We loved the area. It has a country feel to it but yet is so close to Lucca. Nearby AmenitiesWe had to drive to Lucca to get groceries. There are some small informal restaurants within 2 km of the villa and some gelato shops, too. The House/ApartmentThe villa is well maintained. The villa was very peaceful and except for the occasional dog barking, goats, and the morning rooster crowing, it was very quiet. GardenThe villa has a pergola with table underneath for dining right next to the pool. A beautiful setting. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe villa is very comfortable with all the necessary amenities. We lacked nothing. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were comfortable. The owner of the villa has purchased large standing fans in each bedroom in case it gets too hot at night. This was nice, but we only used it one night as all other evenings it was cool with a breeze. KitchenThe kitchen was great. We cooked a few meals. The only complaint I had was that there were few ice trays (I know Italians don't use ice, but Americans do especially in the heat), not enough to supply 16 people each day. Also it would have been nice to have more plastic containers to use for leftovers. Problems or BonusesThe villa came with its own chapel. Nice. Agency and Representatives (and price)My experience with TuscanHouse was fantastic. They answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. They spoke English and portrayed an accurate picture of the villa. The price is more than reasonable for this area of Tuscany. The owner of the villa, his wife, and two children live right next door to the villa and were more than gracious. They even drove to Lucca to pick up a couple from the train station on the first day. They greeted us warmly and were most kind. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? This is the second time we stayed in the villa. I will rent it again if we go back. I do not know of any person in our group who would not go back. In fact, most are going to rent again for family vacations and such. Things to do in this areaLucca is a great jumping off point for northern Tuscany. We made day trips to Portovenere, Siena, Volterra, the Garfagna region, and Florence. There's more than enough to do. The agency provided a list of restaurants nearby and we went to one the last evening of our trip, Erasmus, which was great.
