villa, sleeps 10, near Ruffina, Tuscany Chianti WhenJuly 16 - 30, 2005, 2 weeks LocationThe area was lovely although Ruffina is a very ordinary market town. Despite the description of the villa being on a farm it was not made clear that the property was near to a road which was extremely noisy for 24 hours per day! Nearby AmenitiesThe property was a five minute drive to the town - the road was too dangerous to walk there. The House/ApartmentThe Villa was beautifully decorated with ensuite bathrooms to each room. There are two further apartments sharing the swimming pool but when the agent runs wine tasting trips you may find the pool full of children from other rented properties. GardenVery pretty garden and shared pool but sadly marred by the noise of constant traffic. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe Villa was furnished beautifully but unfortunately despite representations to the contrary there was no facility for eight people to eat or sit and relax let alone ten. There is a large dining room but this was locked and we were refused entry. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms and bathrooms lovely. KitchenKitchen was basic but functional. Sufficient crockery and cutlery but storage insufficient and poor quality. Problems or BonusesOur biggest surprise was the way we were treated by the owner. We felt as if we were constantly being watched, family fun in the pool was frowned upon and an accidental breakage was treated as a major problem for which we were demanded a large payment or the police would be called. We have never been treated so rudely before and we were given no support by the agent. Agency and Representatives (and price)We informed the agent that we required eating facilities for our whole party of eight and exclusive use of the villa. We made it clear that booking was subject to these factors and were assured that we would would have these. On arrival this was clearly not the case but what was clear was that the countryside aspect of the property had been grossly misleading in the property discription. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? The house is lovely if you can cope with traffic noise, and Tuscany was wonderful but the attitude of the owner and the reliability of the agent dreadful. This place is handy for a one night stay but for a two week holiday I could not recommend it. Things to do in this areaWe loved Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence. We also travelled back inland up the Chianti valley to see some breathtaking scenery. The traditional Tuscan restaurants hidden in the hills were always a delight with amazing views if not a scarey drive back.
