apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South When16 - 23 July 2005, 1 week LocationLe Manzinaie is situated in farmland about 15 minutes drive from the hill town of Montepulciano. It is a lovely large immacuately restored farmhouse set in landscaped gardens well set back from a country road. The owners live upstairs and the ground floor is divided into a number of apartments. There is also a lovely little free standing house. It was a perfect base for a touring holiday, convenient to good road and rail links. Nearby AmenitiesThe nearest supermarket and restaurant were about a two minute drive. There was also a pizzeria which did takeaways in the evening. This proved invaluable to us as were travelling with two hungry teenagers and it made the holiday even more relaxing. There was a larger supermarket in Montepulciano and lots of specialty shops with different sorts of pasta, oils, cheeses, fruit etc. The House/ApartmentThe building was a restored farmhouse in excellent shape. It was exactly like it is portrayed on their website or perhaps even more so. You were in the company of other people yet had all the privacy you needed. GardenThe garden was great. It was beautifully landscaped and had one of the best swimming pools we have seen in a self-catering property. It was large enough for swimming and very well maintained by Fiore. There was also ample sitting areas and umbrellas for everyone. There was also a fabulous vegetable and fruit area. We were there in July and there was an amazing variety of tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, plums etc. and we were encouaged to take what we needed. Each apartment also had an outside sitting/eating area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasOur apartment looked just like it does on the website. The whole farm was very clean. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms were of a high standard. Problems or BonusesMarzia and Fiore were the big surpises. They were wonderful hosts, unobtrusive yet there if you needed them. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Alicia but I gather that she only adds to the fun. All of the guests were treated to an amazing meal one evening outside in the garden. So many courses and such an abundance of food, not to mention the liqueur tastings. Watch Fiore, he has a heavy hand with the measures. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked directly with the owners. Their website is an accurate reflection of the reality. We consider it very good value for what they offer. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? It was perfect for our requirements. Like most self-catering holidays in the countryside, I would suggest you would need a car. There is so much to see in that area. We were happy not to be in an isolated environment but to be nearer transport links to get about. We would definitely recommend Le Manzinaie for real Italian hospitality and easy access to lots of really interesting places. Things to do in this areaCheck out their detailed itineraries. There are so many interesting places to visit. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
