apartments on an estate near Panzano, Tuscany Chianti When2005, 1 week LocationPiccola Torre 3 is in the country. The views and general ambiance were exactly what we had expected in Tuscany. The Chianti region of Tuscany is different from the countryside south of Siena. There are more trees and forests intermingled with grape vineyards and olive groves. There are also fewer people. After driving all through Tuscany, we decided we preferred our area to the more open, rolling hills farther south. Nearby AmenitiesThere were no stores or restaurants nearby. Panzano, the nearest village, was 3 kilometers away. Visitors to Tuscany need to make an important decision about whether they want to be located in, or within walking distance of, a town or if they prefer being out in the country. By our standards, our location was perfect. It was peaceful and very quiet, yet it was a five minute drive to Panzano, a little village that we adopted as our own. The House/ApartmentThe villa was beautiful with great views. Our apartment - the tower - was three stories. Ground floor was a living room and kitchen. A large bedroom and bath on second floor. And a bedroom with classic Tuscan views and a bath on third floor. We did not use the swimming pool, but it was large, clean, and well-maintained. I think there are six apartments on the property. We were there in mid-May, and only one other apartment was rented. We rarely saw the other guests, so we just about had the whole property to ourselves. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAll furniture was in excellent shape and the apartment was spotless when we arrived. KitchenThe kitchen is small, but we did not cook there so it did not matter. Problems or BonusesAs a helpful suggestion, it would be good to have rudimentary stuff in the apartment to help people with Sunday morning breakfast. When one first arrives on Saturday afternoon, it is not easy to go into town for salt, pepper, tea, paper towels, etc. Agency and Representatives (and price)The rental agent was on-site when we arrived. She spoke fluent English and was very friendly and helpful. She did supply us with several bottles of local wine. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? My wife and I would recommend this property without qualification. It exceeded all of our expectations. Things to do in this areaLa Cantinetta di Rignana is a little restaurant down a little gravel road about two kilometers from the property. It is actually written up in some of the travel books, and is delightful. The Oltre il Giardino in Panzano is a great little restaurant that serves outstanding stewed boar. A visit to Dario Cecchini's butcher shop in Panzano is a must. I also recommend taking the bus from Panzano to Florence and Siena. The bus service from either Panzano or the nearby town of Greve is very good. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
