Review 1709: Sea and Country Villas, Villa Ortensia
2bed/2bath house near Sarzana, Tuscany North
August 2005, 8 nights
The house is outside the city of Sarzana in a little village called Prulla in the coastal Tuscan countryside. Sid and I love the location. Look one way and you look at the Mediterranean, the other a beautiful medeval village. You are on the top of the hill so the views are breathtaking. You are surrounded by olive and fig trees, pines and an organic garden. Very private.
You are in the countryside so you need a car. Sarzana is 15 minutes drive away.
The house is historical and totally remolded with every amenity you could want. The house is decorated in Tuscan style with paintings, old maps and keys, and dried flowers. Looks like a museum; feels like your grandmother's house. Cosy and warm. You share this wonderful estate with the owner who is always attentive to your every need.
You have your own patio with views of the countryside. The patio is private. There is a pool which you share with the owner.
Spotlessly clean. Beautifully furnished. The bed is to die for; more confortable then my own. The dining room could seat 10 easily. Great kitchen with dishwasher. Marble throughout.
Yes (comfortable), yes (nice), yes (enough bathrooms). The sheets were so soft. One bathroom upstairs had a great bathtub and the one downstairs has a shower. Both bathrooms have bidets. Both bathrooms were new with tumbled marble and towel warmers.
Every thing you would need to cook a gourmet meal; this kitchen was equipped by a chef/cook. There was enough dishes, glasses, pots and pans to cook a full meal.
Problems or Bonuses
Leticia, the owner is the bonus. She is one of the most wonderful women I have every met.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Sea and Country Villas was excellent in booking our stay, arranging for an English-speaking person to meet us and take us up to the house. The pictures on the website where great. The house was even better. We were there in August 2005 and the rate was 2000 Euro per week.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would highly recommeded Villa Ortensia to friends and family. I will be back next year to see Leticia.
Things to do in this area
Live the Tuscan life and enjoy the food and cook for yourself. In Sarzana there are great restaurants and shopping. Nearby is the marble town of Carrara; Lucca and Pisa are less than 1 hour away, and Florence is 1 1/2 hours by car. The beach is 15 minutes away. Visit the Cinque Terre by boat from La Spezia. Lots to do or do nothing and enjoy the countryside.
