Review 1718: InTuscany, La Penisola

Review by Susie from US

house and apartment on a farm near Radda, Tuscany Chianti

Sept 10 - 17, 2005, one week

When my husband I began to organize a special 40th anniversary trip to Italy, we knew that one week must include a villa in Tuscany. We were so lucky to choose La Penisola near Radda in Chianti. Long before Frances Mayes became the "Tuscany watchword," we saw the movie "Stealing Beauty." La Penisola could easily have been the location where that movie was shot!

Our host, Nora Kravis, was the ultimate good customer service provider - she remained at arm's length for most of the time so we felt as though we were truly living the Tuscan lifestyle on our own but when we needed her help, she was there for us. She gave us information about events taking place in nearby villages and at the end of our stay when we discovered we bought way too much stuff to take back in our suitcases, she helped us with a box, tape and appropriate markers ... even though she herself was heading to the US for a business meeting and time was short for her.

The house and surrounding property provided the ultimate in a Tuscan sunset experience and even though the bright Tuscan sun shown in our panoramic picture window in our bedroom each morning, we managed to be so relaxed that we often slept until nearly 10:00 a.m.! We enjoyed being able to select herbs from the garden and hang out with the villa cat "Daffodil." Our only regret is that we didn't spend more time at the house -- but there was so much to see that we found ourselves in the car more than we thought.

Our only suggestion is that there be a more detailed written description of usage of appliances and any "quirks" that one might encounter when renting any property -- we all have those in our personal homes but we know those well. To a renter, a little more direction in this regard would be helpful.

We look forward to the possibility of a return to La Penisola and will certainly tell all our friends and business associates who may be considering a visit to Tuscany that La Penisola would be the perfect choice for their stay!
