2bed/1bath apartment in Spello, Umbria

When

August 2001, 1 week

Location

Casa Ulivi was an apartment situated on the top floor of a renovated house in the upper part of Spello a beautiful medieval town approximately 5 miles east of Assisi. As you can gather from the name the house had a very spacious garden including olive trees which provided much appreciated shade from the hot midday sun. The garden was private and on the same upper level as the apartment.

Despite the time of year the apartment provided peace and relative tranquility. The only drawback was the steep climb to the apartment. But then this added to its privacy. Amenities were very good and the house comfortable.

Nearby Amenities

The old town of Spello is fairly well catered for. Small stores inside the city walls provided all necessary food and drinks though there is a sizeable supermarket just outside the walls. The selection of restaurants in the town and surrounding area was more than ample and we ate well every single night.

Garden

Despite the lack of a pool the garden was a great feature of the apartment. The garden was large enough for 4 to spread out and use the patio furniture provided to soak up the sun or simply laze and read.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings in the apartment were comfortable and clean though we spent most of our time outside in the glorious sunshine.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. The bedrooms were very comfortable with two double beds and a set of bunk beds. The furniture was typical Umbrian - timber framed and attractive. The apartment was very well maintained.

Kitchen

The kitchen/dining room was similarly well equipped with a wide range of cooking utensils and sufficient cutlery/crockery for 6.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners were very friendly, they even carried our luggage from the car - a considerable distance up a steep incline. A welcome bottle of wine was chilled and waiting with their compliments.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency was efficient but it would have been more straightforward (and cheaper) to deal directly with the owners.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would most cetainly recommend this apartment but would warn potential travellers of the steep climb.

Things to do in this area

A multitude of beautiful villages (Bevagna, Montefalco) with stunning artwork, Assisi, Perugia, Lake Trasimeno.
