3bed/2bath house near Passignano sul Trasimeno, Umbria WhenJune 2005, 1 week LocationThe house was difficult to locate and down an awful dirt road. But once you are there, it is wonderful. No other buildings in sight and surrounded by trails which could be heaven for a mountain biker or a trail runner who likes hills. We liked the area quite a bit, though we were less than impressed with the lake itself (Lake Trasimeno). Still, it was close to the highway for easy commuting to the hilltop towns of Umbria. The house was very private and a great location to just get away from it all. Nearby AmenitiesYou had to drive everywhere unless you are very fit and have the time. I would say that the nearest grocery store was about 4 kms away ... uphill. The House/ApartmentThe house was in excellent condition and well maintained. The kitchen was stocked exceedingly well. The linens were beautiful and there were enough towels! It is owned by an American family and is up to a high standard in all respects. This house is the best equipped rental we have ever had the pleasure of in Europe. GardenThere was an outside patio completely covered ... actually, part of the living area. It had a nice table well suited to seating 8. The pool was away from the house and toddler safe. It was a nice, but basic pool. No special tiles, no jacuzzi, but large enough for laps. There was plenty of seating around it and a table as well. We spent a lot of time there each day as the temps were about 40 degrees - almost 104 in Farenheit. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good shape and comfortable. The house was clean. The only downside was the amount of bugs ... but that's Umbria in summer. Lots of scorpions. They did spray though, but we still found them. Just make sure you shake out your towels! :) Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable and the furniture was very nice. The linens were gorgeous. Again, of a much higher standard than normally seen. They had two large bathrooms that looked as if they had recently been retiled. Very nice choice of decoration! KitchenWonderful. We cooked almost every day and never had a problem. The kitchen was extremely well stocked. Problems or BonusesThe surprises were very positive. The only negative thing is that the people who handle the house seem to suggest their friend's restaurants/wine tastings. Most of their recommendations were disappointing to us. So, I recommend this house but come with your own ideas!! (or use the Slow Travel site for recommendations) Agency and Representatives (and price)My sister booked with the owner directly. She was excellent. We paid 2,000 Euro/week in late June. I thought it was an excellent deal. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes. I would recommend this place without reservations. I wouldn't stay here again because we have been there/done that and to be honest, we didn't LOVE Umbria. We had an enjoyable vacation but prefer other parts of Italy. Things to do in this areaWe shopped for Deruta and explored the hilltop towns of Gubbio, Spoleto, Assisi and Spello. Our favorite was Spello. Assisi is amazing also.
