Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1780: Rentvillas, Palazzo Torrigiani - Figaro
2bed/1bath apartment in center, Florence
Sept. 2005, 2 wks
Right across the river from the Uffizi.
Central location with everything close at hand.
Beautiful, old building in excellent condition. Apartment was very quiet for Florence, so some city noises. Bring earplugs for the few nights when they have a "do" at the Uffizi or the guitar players on the Ponte Vecchio decide to sing an encore. This was not a real big problem for us. About 20 other apartments in the building. Lift to 6th floor, then had to walk another flight to get to La Toretta, then another flight up stairs to panoramic bedroom.
Fabulous private balcony with views of San Miniato and the Arno.
Comfortable furniture in good shape. Clean. Enough seating for 2 or 3 people.
New firm mattress. Unforgettable 360 view of the Arno, Uffizi and all of Florence from the bedroom. Modern tile bathroom. Slight inconvenience: shower went dead for a few minutes a few times in the morning. Italian plumbing is different than ours.
Tiny kitchen with two burners stove top, and sink, but certainly sufficient for our needs. Refrigerator in living room. Mid-level quality pots and dishes -we enjoyed cooking simple meals of pasta, sauce etc.
Problems or Bonuses
The views were fabulous, the bed was really comfortable. Enjoyed drinking wine on our balcony. Fun watching Italian TV. So convenient to everything - sometimes we came home for lunch. Loved exploring the streets behind the apartment - Via dei Bardi, lanes leading up to the Belvedere. Walked up to San Miniato al Monte through an almost rural-feeling area with olive trees - what a surprise!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Excellent and professional. On site person spoke English perfectly, but was happy to converse with us in Italian so we could practice. Everything ran like a clock-work. Mauro, the concierge was charming, handsome and very helpful.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
YES! I'd recommend this for a couple - the bedroom is really romantic - and a third person would be sleeping in the livingroom.
Things to do in this area
Bring insect repellant. One favorite restaurant nearby was I Quattro Leoni near Santo Spirito. Go for gelati at La Carraia- at foot of Il Ponte Carraia - it's the best!! Buy "The Food Lover's Guide to Florence: With Culinary Excursions in Tuscany" by Emily Wise Miller - she really got it right! Don't forget to walk up the hill to the Belevdere. Do make reservations at restaurants, and book ahead in U.S. for the Uffizi and Academia (even in September!!) Consider day trips to Fiesole, Siena and Lucca by bus - very inexpensive mode of travel.
