house and apartment on a farm near Radda, Tuscany Chianti WhenJuly 2005, One Week ReviewMy husband and I returned once again to La Penisola in early July, our 12th visit (see Review 100, Chianti Cashmere). La Penisola is our version of Paradise! The house, its setting, the affability and warmth of its owner, Nora Kravis, all bring us back, year after year. La Penisola is a very old farmhouse. Nora has retained the essence of the house’s antiquity and complemented that with good design, simple and comfortable furnishings, a modern kitchen and outdoors, a pergola overlooking a large swimming pool. The view from the house and the pool area covers the entire width of an agricultural valley. You can see Radda and Volpaia from Nora’s property Old farmhouses in Europe (and I believe new ones as well) were constructed without closets. Nora has supplied each bedroom with armoires, bureaus and hanging trees from which one can suspend clothing. The master bedroom on the upper level does have a closet that is open, resulting from earlier construction of a bathroom. There are two bedrooms on the upper level and one bedroom, somewhat smaller, on the lower level. The property is a working farm on which Nora raises cashmere goats. The goat milk is used to enhance Nora’s soap products that can be purchased on site. Nora raises Bolognese dogs. The dogs are wonderful companions for children and grownups. La Penisola is situated approximately 45 minutes driving time from both Siena and the outskirts of Florence. We drive into Florence, park at a soccer field lot and take a local bus into the center city. Anyone interested in a beautiful setting, a comfortable and well maintained house and a friendly and helpful owner would do well to investigate La Penisola.
