1bed/1bath apartment, Cortona, Tuscany East

When

October 2005, 1 week

Location

The apartment was centrally located in the wonderful walled town of Cortona. It was in a finely restored Renaissance palace with several other apartments in the building, each with their own separate entrance. It is one of our favourite areas in Tuscany.

Nearby Amenities

We were able to walk to cafes, restaurants and the grocery store in less than 5 minutes.

The House/Apartment

The building was a restored Renaissance palace. It was in excellent condition and the quality of the restoration was superb. It was in a peaceful and quiet area of Cortona. The apartment was one large room with a king-size bed and a small kitchen area that you could prepare coffee and light meals in. Unfortunately there were no utensils available. There was also a small fridge. There was also a small sitting area with TV. Breakfast was included and was served at one of the cafes in the town-centre. There was a lovely bathroom with shower and also a small area outside the bathroon with a sink and mirror.

Garden

None.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was comfortable and in fantastic condition. Linens were changed every day and the apartment was absolutely spotless. There were enough chairs for the small dining room table but could have been one more comfortable chair in the sitting area.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Excellent. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very nicely done.

Kitchen

The kitchen was not usable as there were no pots and pans or dishes available. We did not stay in the apartment for any meals.

Problems or Bonuses

We were actually pleasantly surprised by the wonderful accommodation. The apartment was nicely decorated without losing its historic feel.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Pascal at Italy Accommodation was absolutely wonderful to book this rental through. He knew the property well and was able to answer any questions that we had. Claudia was the onsite person (owner) and even though she did not speak much English, she greeted us with a lovely fruit flan and the key for the apartment the evening that we arrived. The reality of the property was far superior than we had expected. The apartment was 100 Euros per night in October and that included breakfast each day at the cafe along with a change of towels on a daily basis.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay at this property again and would recommend it to our best friends without hesitation.

Things to do in this area

The location in Cortona allowed us to walk to some of the excellent restaurants in Cortona in the evening and enjoy the ambiance and wine of the region. We were easily able to visit the hill towns of Montelpulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and Orvieto which were within a short driving distance away.

Restaurants in Cortona that we would highly recommend are La Grotta and Dardano. The day we went to Montalcino, we had lunch at Ristorante BocconDivino which is absolutely wonderful and has a spectacluar view of the valley below.

Cortona also has a lovely ceramic shop that we visited several times that sells local ceramic items that is specific to the area. There is also a wonderful art shop along the main street.
