Two apartments and cottage on a farm outside Montemelino, near Perugia, Umbria WhenSeptember 2001 ReviewI want to tell about the most beautiful cottage my husband, daughter, brother & sister in law and I stayed in last September, 2001: Villa Rosa. We were privileged to be the first occupants, and therefore the first to use the spa bath, and all the styley Italian mod cons. It was magic! The cottage stands on a hillside with views of Olive trees, cyprus, rolling countryside and distant houses ... it is the setting we sit in New Zealand and dream about while planning our next trip to Italy! The owners are Lino and Megan Rialti; their warm welcome and that of their two dogs, set the scene for our week. In advance we had requested a welcome basket so immediately we feasted on the antipasti and wine from the region to celebrate 'just being there'. And we continued on and on and on in like manner! Megan answered our hundred questions about the region, sent us off on explorations and even took our washing off the line when the day threatened to rain. She enthused over our discoveries and purchases and shared our disappointment that the ultra fantastic gaggia coffee maker [at half of the price available in NZ] was just too awkward to take with us to Venice, Paris and home! So we continued to eat! Sometimes we walked the eight minutes to the village for fabulous dinners, sometimes we ate with our hosts whose pasta, chicken cacciatore and gelatti persuaded us we needed holiday portions, and sometimes we stayed in and actually used those styley appliances! We think your readers would want to know about this gem and I'm only sharing it with you because there will be time for others to visit before we are able to return! If you require more on our experience please let me know ... there is so much to say it was hard to know where to start ... all of it illustrating the delight we experienced at Villa Rosa.
