October 2005, one month

This was simply the best! You can't be better situated in Rome than here. It may be the only reasonably flat area in Rome. We were able to walk to nearly all of the places a normal sight-seer would wish to visit, despite my wife being on crutches. We walked this neighborhood from morning to late evening with never the sense of concern one has in our own big cities.

Nearby Amenities

A five minute walk will place all of the items one could possibly need in your possesion. From well known shops to small intimate ones, to the Campo dei Fiori itself, anything you could need can be found nearby. Foodies rejoice, wonderful Trattorias and gourmet shops are at your front door. The grocery store (Punto) is not more than 2 blocks away. The electric bus (#116) comes right through the Campo and at Sacra Argentina you can catch the tram (#8) to Trastevere. There were restaurants in view of the apartment that were also very good.

The House/Apartment

The history of this apartment is better recorded on Massimo and BiancaMaria's website. The website also gives you a sense of where you are and shows the lay-out of the apartment. As one previous reviewer remarked, "You won't be surprised". The apartment is easily accessed by a small elevator and proved to be a wonderful refuge after a day's wanderings. There were approximately 8 apartments in the building and we rarely saw any of the other tentants.

The Campo is your garden/sitting area. Enjoy it - we certainly did. Looking out the windows as the dusk came and turned to night was another extremely nice way to relax for a few moments.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

This was the home of Bianca and Massimo before their daughter Defina arrived; it is warm, neat and well supplied with enough comfortable furniture for 4 or 5 people at a time in both the living room and dining room. When we arrived Ronnie was cleaning from the last visitor, he also made arrangements to come to clean every week when it was convenient for us, and when we left he was cleaning for the new arrival. This was our first time renting and we loved it.

Big, warm, comfortable, with 2 huge built-in closets which also included drawer space and a place to put laundry until ready to wash it, a convenient desk and, oh yeah, a big beautiful window and another gorgeous view. Bathroom is neat, compact and fully functional with access from living room area as well as from bedroom.

Grace cooked several meals and I mostly set the table. There were pans suitable for what Grace was cooking and plenty of dishes if we had invited any others to join us. It was a good kitchen in Grace's opinion in that it had everything she needed without being so large it took a lot of time to pickup. The washer/dryer included in the kitchen was a god sent item.

Problems or Bonuses

The biggest bonus we got was our reception by the neighborhood people, who were warm and friendly and who we miss very much. The other bonus was how quickly we adapted to the apartment and felt that we were in exactly the right place.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We rented directly from the owners of the apartment who were great, spoke English, and were warm and welcoming. The reality of the apartment was very accurately reflected in the published information.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would stay here again in a minute and would tell anyone who asked to think very seriously about renting this apartment.

Things to do in this area

As we were trying to live a more normal day to day life style the Restaurant list isn't very long. We stumbled into Dar Pallaro after a long day of shopping and walking in the rain, it was a lot of fun, inexpensive and good. Luigi's near the Chiesa Nuova was a wonderful night out with friends. Sora Margarita in the Ghetto should not be missed, small, crowded and wonderful. Lunch downstairs at Bar Rossana's proved to be a late in the trip find. You simply have to work way too hard to find a bad meal - relax and enjoy.
