Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1845: Roman Reference, Colosseum - Via dei Capocci (#359)
1bed/1bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome
Nov 18 - 21, 2005, 4 days
The apartment is centrally located and within five minutes walk of the Colosseum and Termini. There is also a Metro station just around the corner so the whole of the city centre is within easy reach, either on foot or by public transport if you're feeling lazy. Whilst the area is by no means swanky, there is just about everything right on the doorstep and the ease of access to central Rome is great - simply having the ancient city that close is fantastic in itself!
There are umpteen cafes and bars within a stones throw of the apartment offering plenty of opportunity for drinks on an evening and a pick me up in the morning! There are also plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area including an Indian restaurant and an ethnic takeaway on Via dei Serpenti in the unlikely event that you get fed up with the excellent Italian food. I didn't notice a grocery but for a weekend I wasn't really looking so there may be one nearby.
The apartment itself is on a fairly quiet backstreet and, whilst basic, makes an excellent base camp for exploring the city centre. It is by no means a palace, but for the price it offers pretty good value.
The furniture was fairly basic but sufficient.
The bathroom is a little on the small side but everything works. The bedroom is spacious and the bed extremely comfortable.
The kitchen appeared to be well stocked with pots and pans, etc. although again perhaps a little small.
Problems or Bonuses
Probably the whole trip was a surprise, it was expected to be good but it was just so much better! The apartment lived up to its billing on the website. No matter how many times somebody tells you that Rome is incredible, until you visit you really can't grasp how much of an amazing place it is.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The service offered by the agency was extremely professional and the website descriptions were certainly accurate. Emails were answered promptly and any questions were dealt with satisfactorily and in excellent English. We were met at the apartment with keys by Enzo who was very friendly and particularly helpful - he recommended a very good nearby bar and pointed us in the right direction for some fantastic food.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would be more than happy to stay here again, the location is ideal for exploring Rome without having to spend a fortune and the local amenities are provide most things that you could ask for. In addition to the rental itself Rome is simply stunning, I have never visited any city that has such a sense of grandeur and I will certainly be returning, hopefully many times!
