apartments in converted farm house near Assisi, Umbria WhenRivotorto-Assisi, one month LocationVilla Rosy is a large country home located near the town of Assisi but far enough away that it would be considered countryside. Property is located in the midst of an olive grove on about 100 acres. The house is built on a hillside and has a private drivway. No other homes are nearby, but it is within walking distance of the village of Rivotorto. Nearby AmenitiesNearest coffee shop and small market were less than one mile from property. Nearest larger supermercato was about two miles away. Closest restaurants were located in Assisi or Spello. The House/ApartmentBuilding was of the stone Tuscan style. House was in excellent condition and included a newly added swimming pool. Very peacdeful and quiet. One additional rental (Magnolia) was available in the house but used a separate entrance. We rented Mimosa. GardenSeveral outside areas for sitting with a valley overlook. Pool had many chaise lounges. Magnolia guests shared the pool and outside barbeque area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasHouse was clean and maid service is available. Linens were changed weekly, towels twice weekly. House was very clean and well appointed. Large living room had a TV with many foreign channels. BBC and CNN world news was available. Dining room was spacious, could entertain 8-10 for dinner. Bedrooms/BathroomsBerdrooms very nice and fairly roomy. Bathrooms were great with modern showers. One bathroom also had a tub. KitchenKitchen was indeed usable with a fairly wide array of dishes, pots and pans. Small european refrigerator/freezer was adequate. Owner offered an American style coffee maker. Full meals could be prepared without much difficulty. BBQ area was just outside by the trellis and garden. Problems or BonusesThe house exceeded our expectations. We encountered a few minor glitches, which we have learned to expect while traveling. Agency and Representatives (and price)We contacted the owner through Agriturismo website. Owner was onsite to greet us and spoke English. The place exceeded expectations. We were there in November so we paid off season prices. The owner was very gracious and included us in several activities such as cooking bruschetta, seeing the first press of virgin olive oil and drinking the new wine. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would stay there again in a heartbeat. The owner was very helpful and did not interfere with our vacation. We have already recommended the place to two of our closest friends. Things to do in this areaMany beautiful hill towns can be accessed by auto within one hour. Assisi, Bevagna, Montefalco, and Spello are less than 30 minutes driving time. Florence is a 90 minute train ride from the Assisi station, or a more difficult car ride of about 90 minutes. We found two good restaurants nearby: La Fortezza in Assisi was excellent, and Astro Ristorante in Spello had some good local dishes as well. The very best food, however, was served at Villa Rosy in the form of Umbran bruschetta and barbequed bistecca al forno with a couple glasses of novello wine. We can thank the owner for teaching us how to cook over wood coals. The supermercato in Colestrada (about 12 km. north had many shops and good shopping). Good wine prices there also.
