2bed/1bath apartment in Monticiano, Tuscany South
WhenOctober 2005, 7 nights LocationLa Forteza is located in the small town of Monticiano (not Montalcino). Monticiano is a very small, very quiet little town, located about 30 minutes southwest of Siena. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. The apartment is built into the wall which surrounds the town. The location of the apartment is at the rear entrance to the town, a very quiet location. We felt very secluded; never heard any of our neighbors. The terrace overlooks a beautiful valley. Every room in the apartment has a window which opens to this spectacular view. Nearby AmenitiesThe nearest grocery store would be the equivalent of about 3 city blocks away. There are a couple of small restaurants in town. The House/ApartmentWhile being built into the ancient walls of the town, the apartment is quite modern. The kitchen has a door which opens out onto the terrace overlooking the valley. There is a door off the kitchen which leads to the stairwell going upstairs. On the other side of the stairwell is the roomy living room. The bathroom is at the top of the stairs. And a bedroom on each side of the bathroom. Every room in the unit has a window which opens to the view of the valley. If there were any tenants in the units to our side, we never heard them. Of course, the walls are made of stone, so this could explain the feeling of solitude. GardenThe unit has a private terrace off of the kitchen. No pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThere is more than enough sitting for everyone. The kitchen had 4 chairs, 2 more chairs in the stairway (foyer), 2 chairs and a sofa in the living room, 2 chairs in each of the bedrooms, 4 chairs on the terrace. So that makes 19 chairs. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable. They were tastefully decorated with artwork and antiques. KitchenThere were plenty of pots, pans, dishes and utensils. The kitchen was well equipped. Problems or BonusesThe only thing I would add would be a clothes dryer. On cold damp days, your clothes won't dry. Agency and Representatives (and price)I was greeted by a very friendly Italian speaking woman. She very effectively communicated all that I needed to know about the apartment. I was extremely surprised and very happy with my rental. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would highly recommend this unit to my friends. I plan on returning within the next 2 years.
