apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South

When

May 2005, 10 days

Location

Although Sant Antonio is set in the countryside overlooking olive groves and flanked by natural forest, it is within walking distance of Montepulciano and we have found it an ideal base for exploring further afield.

Nearby Amenities

You could walk into Montepulciano but its probably safer if you drive as there are few paths. This small town is well served with a range of shops, petrol stations, cafes and restaurants. There are a couple of restaurants and a grocer shop that are a little closer than the town - about 2kms from Sant Antonio.

The House/Apartment

The facilities are excellent and with regular investment they are continually improved year on year. The style is relaxed and informal and however stressed you are when you arrive you will always leave revitalised and at ease.

Garden

Many of the apartments have a well maintained area of grass directly outside the front door with tables and chairs for dining al fresco. There are a number of BBQ points around the complex and some can accommodate extra large parties! Many of the apartments feel very private and seperate from the rest of the small complex. There is a very welcome pool to cool off in. Because there is so much sight seeing in the area, you may find that you are often the only ones enjoying the pool. Very relaxing!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

We have always been more than satisfied with these aspects.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

We have stayed in most of the 13 apartments over the years and each one is different, with many possessing unique features. We always sleep very well!

Kitchen

The kitchen includes most, if not all, of the utensils that you might require to cater for yourself. If we needed anything extra we need only to ask and it is provided quickly.

Problems or Bonuses

We have never experienced any negative surprises. Every year we find improvements introduced to increase customer satisfaction. It is lovely to see the same faces every year and to be recognised not only as loyal customers but also as friends.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Mine host, Nico made us so welcome on our first visit in 2001 that we have returned every year since then! Nico is an expert on what's available in the locality and his fluency in languages ensures that you clearly understand all the options. Nico is ably supported by a friendly team at Sant Antonio. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is accompanied by a smile and good humour.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We have returned many times and have recommended it to many of our friends and family who have become regulars too. We cannot recommend Sant Antonio highly enough!

Things to do in this area

If you enjoy good food, great wine, convivial company and easy living then you will love the slow pace of this area. You must allow yourself, however, to take time to unwind and get to know the locals. We have eaten in most of the restaurants in Montepulciano and have never been disappointed - La Porta at Montechiello deserves a special mention (Daria is the perfect hostess). The cafe half way up to the Duomo at the top of the hill is a welcome spot to stop, have an espresso and watch the world go by. The locals will soon acknowledege you!
