apartments in the Oltrarno, Florence WhenJanuary 2006, 1 week LocationOltr'Arno on a small side street. Between Piazza Il Carmine and Piazza Santo Spirito. Nearby AmenitiesFabulous pasticceria, Sant'Agostino about 2 blocks away. Nice Vegetable store. Ok Maccelleria and salumi available on Via Serragli. Cavolo, a superb restaurant from past experience, next door. Trattoria I Raddi - Osteria d'Ardiglione half a block away. Great wine shop on via Serragli that sells quite good vini sfuzo (try the Montalcino rosso for €3.30). The House/ApartmentOld building right on the street. The apartment is on the ground floor. 14 to 16 foot ceilings with an old wood coffered ceilings. Large sitting room with dining nook and the smallest kitchen imaginable that is still functional. Very large bedroom. Small but quite nice bathroom. GardenThere is a garden but we did not have the key giving access to it. We did not ask Caterina as with the cold temperatures, we really didn't want to be outside. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture ranged from beautiful and old to nice and old. The couch was very comfortable despite being a pull out. A very good napping spot indeed. The heating system could be cranked up to quite fierce levels, a nice thing when the wind chill temperature was hovering around 0. 0 Farenheit that is! Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bathroom had plenty of hot water - a good thing! The bedroom had loads of very nice furniture and a huge sitting area. It also had something resembling a bed that actually was a back injury torture device. Next time we will probably just pull the mattress onto the floor or just curl up on the couch! KitchenThe kitchen was in a little corner and was quite functional if very tight. Either you or your food could fit in it! Stove has 4 burners, there was a full size sink. Nice selection of pots and pans. No griddle and the kitchen knife is a joke; we brought our own. Problems or BonusesThe bed was the only negative. Agency and Representatives (and price)We e-mailed the owner and everything was smooth even when we had to change our dates 3 times! Of course it is our second stay at Il Carmine. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?YES!!!!!! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
