Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 1934: Rentvillas, Cortennano #2
apartments on an estate near San Gimignano, Tuscany West
April 2005, 1 Week
Cortennano #2 is located on a quiet hillside of a vineyard in the very heart of Tuscany. The view of the Tuscan countryside from the villa (and out our windows/front door) was breathtaking and the proximity to major Tuscan sites was excellent. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly (and spoke more English that I spoke Italian :) and were always happy to suggest a restaurants, give directions, things to see and do, etc. I can't say enough good things about our stay there (which was in early April).
We never saw any other guests who were staying at the property - there's plenty of privacy and a handful of great places to sit and enjoy sunsets. The proximity to San Gimignano was fantastic. On our first day we had a really nice walk there (read: somewhat long). It's roughly 3 miles away and the approach is full of striking views of the city. Making the walk will justify eating all the gelato you can handle.
The nearest supermarket (they have everything) is PAM, which is just down the road about 10 minutes or so in Pongibonsi. You can also grab a limited number of items in San Gimignano.
The building has recently been restored, so it is in excellent condition. We found our unit to be very quiet, in fact we never heard any other guests who were staying in the various other units.
The property has several excellent outsdoor seating areas - all with wonderful views. I assure you that you'll have a spot to yourself. There was a great looking pool there, which was closed because of the season.
Our unit was spotless and the furniture was in excellent shape.
The bedroom was fantastic-comfortable canopy bed, clean, etc. The bathroom followed suit.
The kitchen was perfect. Everything you need is there (except food) and it is spotless! We cooked several full meals during our stay there.
Problems or Bonuses
The biggest surprise was how beautiful and private this villa was. Another nice surprise was how easy it was to drive in Italy - the roads are very well marked.

I worked with Mic (short for Michelangelo) at Rentvillas (they're located in California). In a word, Mic was amazing! I honestly credit him for helping me plan the trip of a lifetime. He completely understood my needs in everyway (budgetary, travel sytle, etc.) and made a few choice suggestions of villas he had actually visited. I never felt pressured to to get a more expensive unit or to make a decision in a hurry - it was a great experience. He even emailed me driving directions from Rome to the villa.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Things to do in this area
RISTORANTE LE TERRAZZE, located on the Piazza Della Cisterna in the heart of San Gimignano, was amazing! We had a long and delicious meal shortly after getting engaged. They even gave us a glass of champagne to celebrate! Don't miss out on the wild boar braised in chianti - unreal.
My fiance and I really enjoyed visiting Lucca. It's beautiful, rather upscale at times and doesn't feel so touristy.
