studio apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome WhenJanuary 2006, 4 days LocationThe location of La Giulia apartment is OUTSTANDING in Rome. Located two blocks from Campo de' Fiori market and one block from Piazza Farnese, this sweet apartment is perfect for a couple or two really good friends. You can walk everywhere - Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colleseum, Forum - in just a few minutes, not to mention fabulous cafes, restaurants, and small shops. Nearby AmenitiesThe area is filled with places to shop, as well as the world famous Campo de' Fiori open air market where one can purchase everything from meats, spices, cheeses to jewellery, arts & crafts, and flowers. The House/ApartmentThe all stone structure was built in the 1300s and this apartment has been in the family for years. There are 5 - 6 other apartments in the building. There are tile floors throughout - including a beautiful red-tiled bathroom - and a romantic black iron spiral staircase leading to the front door. Window boxes frame the view to the outside. GardenNo outdoor sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe bed and sheets were comfortable and clean. The furnishings were crisp and modern which juxtapose nicely with the age of the building. The lighting - sconces on the stone walls - made for a soft glow in the evening. Great reading lamps over the bed as well. Bedrooms/BathroomsComfy, cozy bed situated against the back wall and facing the quaint window-boxed window. One charming all-tiled bathroom with beautiful fixtures. KitchenA very compact kitchen replete with all things necessary to make easy suppers or breakfast; we had coffee the true Italian way with a espresso pot. All utensils, spices, coffee, dishes, etc. were provided. Problems or BonusesWe were continually amazed at how close we were to everything. It was cold in Rome during our stay but the space heater warmed us up in no time. We were greeted by the owner and there was a lovely welcome basket on the kitchen table stuffed with wine, juice, crackers, and breakfast items. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency is located in US and run by Lisa Byrne. She is amazingly attentive and available at all times. There wasn't a detail left undiscussed. We also received a highly-detailed document specific to our stay in this apartment, as well as another useful document full of tips about living/traveling in Italy. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?ABSOLUTELY! WITHOUT A DOUBT! Can't wait to book our time back! Things to do in this areaAs mentioned, there are more cafes, restaurants, and shopping - not to mention famous historical sights - all within a brief walking distance. We struck up a conversation with "the Spice Man" at the Campo de' Fiori, and that night ate at a neighborhood place we would have never found - no sign. The pasta was delicious and only 5 euro a plate! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
