2bed/2bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome WhenFebruary 2006, 1 week LocationThe apartment was in a fabulous location. It was in the middle of the historic city. The apartment is in an apartment building. We loved the area. Felt very safe there. Nearby AmenitiesThere are 2 convenience stores on the same street as well as numerous restaurants/trattorias. There is a large supermarket just 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The House/ApartmentThe building itself is quite old, but we loved that. Looking at it from the outside, it looks like a building with character. The apartment itself was quiet and comfortable. Not sure how many other apartments there are in the building. The apartment has 2 good sized bedrooms, a small kitchen/dining area and 2 bathrooms, both with very powerful showers. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in very good shape. The apartment was spotlessly clean from ceiling to floor. There were enough chairs for us in the dining area. Rome is a city where you tend to spend most of your time exploring, so the apartment was purely for sleeping. We ate out every night. We make Cappucino for breakfast each morning and had biscotti and fruit. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were very comfortable indeed with lovely soft sheets and baby-soft blankets. The bedrooms had plenty of storage and cupboard space. They were beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were fine. Lovely fluffy towels. KitchenThe kitchen was perfect for preparing our Italian breakfast each morning. There was a 2 ring cooker. There were plenty of pots and pans should any guests wish to prepare dinner. There is also a microwave. Everything in the kitchen was of very good quality. Problems or BonusesThe owners, Natalia and Walter, had left us plentiful supplies of coffee, tea, sugar, toasts for breakfasts & biscotti. They also supplied us with a mobile phone so that they could stay in contact with us during our stay, and just in case we had any emergencies and we needed to contact them. This was very reassuring and offered a certain "comfort zone". Natalia and Walter also arranged pick-up and drop-off for us at the airport at a fixed price with a local taxi firm. Agency and Representatives (and price)We dealt directly with Natalia from day 1. She was very helpful and very professional. When we arrived, her husband Walter was waiting for us at the apartment to show us everything we needed to know. He is a very warm and welcoming man. During the course of our stay we spoke with both Walter & Natalia over the phone. They couldn't have been nicer. The reality of the place reflects the published information - however, we felt that it was even nicer in reality. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definitely stay here again when next visiting Rome. I have already recommended the apartment to a friend I met at the airport on our return home. Not only is the apartment exactly what we like (impeccably clean, comfortable, welcoming & in a great location), the owners make it all the more perfect with their attitude and professionalism. Things to do in this areaThe Colosseum is just a 5-minute walk from the apartment. The church of St Giovanni is 5 minutes walk the opposite direction. Also close by are the Sacred Steps (5 mins walk) and Termini (30 mins walk). We took the Metro from Giovanni into the city most days - about a 20 minute walk to the Metro from the apartment.
