Review 1961: Montefalco Mob, Apartment Santa Chiara

Review by SarahA from UK

1bed/1bath apartment in Montefalco, Umbria

2005, 14 days

We had a fantastic week in Montefalco last summer split between two apartments. We loved both apartments. We stayed in Apartment Santa Chiara the second week and were overwhelmed at the high standard of the accommodation. The whole place had been recently decorated to a really high standard and it was light and airy and really tastefully furnished. We have stayed in a few really sterile holiday villas and apartments in the past few years in France and so these apartments put our faith back in booking rental properties again.

The kitchen was nicer than our one at home and there was a lovely balcony overlooking the surrounding countryside at the back of the property. I am struggling to think of negatives about the property, the only thing I can think of is there was a vegetable garden below the balcony that was not so attractive, but we hardly noticed it.

The apartment is located right in the heart of the old town which we were a little worried about when we booked. Again we were pleasantly surprised; it was very quiet and there was free parking a minute or so up the road. Montefalco is a wee gem, it is nothing like Assisi or Spoleto, though we loved visiting them during the day, we were pleased to return back to Montefalco and quieter towns like Bevagna in the evenings.

We ate either at home or in Montefalco and Bevagna in the evenings. Both apartments had an excellent guide to the accommodation and the area and we just stuck to their recommendations for restaurants and what to do and had a great time. I think our favourite restaurant would be the L’Alchemista in the corner of the piazza. We tasted some great Umbrian specialities downstairs in their celler. We were careful to avoid the tourist menus in the busier towns.

We booked both Montefalco apartments through the Montefalcons www.montefalcons.com  They were very helpful in providing a lot of info about the area when we booked. Our first choice was to stay in their other apartment, San Francesco for the whole time because friends had recommended it but Santa Chiara turned out to be just as nice in a different way. I could go on and on; we have already booked again for October this year.
