Review 1981: Roman Reference, Piazza Tuscolo (#137)

Review by marcw from uk

3bed/2bath apartment in San Giovanni, Rome

March 2006, 4 nights

First impressions of the location of this apartment were excellent and over the course of the weekend they were confirmed. The first thing we saw was a quite beautiful courtyard which provides a lovely place to sit and eat takeaway pizza even on a fairly brisk spring day. San Giovanni itself is very well situated, there is a Metro station within five minutes walk of the apartment so getting to just about anywhere within the city centre could not be easier. In addition to this it's only a ten-minute walk to the city walls and San Giovanni in Laterano just beyond, from this point the city centre is easily accessible on foot if you're feeling active.

Nearby Amenities

Local amenities are also very good with a newspaper stand just outside the courtyard entrance and pizzerias, cafes and gelaterias are all in close proximity. There are also several late night bars and a very friendly bakery close by that is extremely handy if you fancy a pastry and a sambuca at 2 o'clock in the morning which strangely we regularly did.

The House/Apartment

The apartment itself was simply stunning. I have stayed with Roman Reference before and was impressed with them but this was fantastic! The pictures and description on the website look impressive but it is always difficult to tell just how accurate they are but in this case they don't really do the place justice. The apartment is huge and although it is technically 3 bedrooms there is also a box room with a couple of bunkbeds so you could actually quite comfortably sleep 7 or 8 people. It was extremely clean and well maintained as well as being spacious.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The lounge area is again large and can comfortably accommodate several people. In addition to a sofa there is a dining table and chairs so if you fancy lounging around then it is a nice place to do so especially in front of the enormous tv which was excellent for catching up with the football highlights.

The bedrooms were again superb. The decor is excellent and the beds themselves are extremely comfortable. The window shutters are also remarkably effective at both shutting out any light and any noise from the outside world, there is absolutely nothing to interfere with getting a good night's sleep after a hard day walking round Rome.

The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, etc. as well as coffee making facilities which is always much appreciated, by myself anyway. It is also of a pretty good size considering it is a kitchenette off the lounge, there is plenty of workspace and you could fit a couple of people cooking in there quite easily.

Problems or Bonuses

The only surprise was just how good this place was. As I've said I have stayed with this agency before so expected everything to be spot on but the apartment and setting actually surpassed my expectations. I think I can safely say for myself and my friends that we will be using this agency again and we would certainly love to use this apartment again as well.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency were thoroughly professional in all our dealings with them. Leon, the guy who dealt with our e-mails, responded to any queries promptly and answered them fully in good English which is always reassuring. Everybody we dealt with over there also spoke very good English and were extremely helpful and friendly.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I can honestly say that I would thoroughly recommend this rental to anybody. The apartment is superb, the area is very handy for just about everything and Rome is just fantastic!

Things to do in this area

It's Rome - it really is all good! Everybody should visit this stunning city at least once in their lives but it deserves so many more visits than that.
