farmhouse in mountains of Sicily, Sicily WhenJuly 2005, a week LocationThe fabulous old farmhouse we stayed in was up in the mountains at Caltabelotta - 20 minutes down the winding road to the sea - which was glorious. Farmhouse set in its own small estate - with walnut and fig trees just outside the door. Huge patio looking out to Caltabellota close by and down to the farmed land - fresh eggs every morning and vegetables from the garden each day. Tranquil, relaxing, cooling breeze on a scorching day. Beautiful old farmhouse with huge wooden doors opening into a large sitting room with antique furniture. Very relaxed. Everyone welcoming in the small town and so friendly. Nearby AmenitiesCaltabellota a short walk or drive. Local shops with a good selection of goods. Very friendly shopkeepers. Good local restaurants with delicious food and wine. The House/ApartmentThe farmhouse has been in the same family for generations and had been restored and all in good repair. The farmhouse has its own electrically operated gates, very good outside lighting to guide you from the parking area into the terrace area. A short distance from the town but peaceful and far enough away to be secluded and quiet. GardenFabulous view from the large terrace where we spent a lot of time looking out to the mountains and down to the sea. Sunshades and loungers. Large rustic wooden table with benches for alfresco evening meals. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasLots of sofas and chairs in the lounges on ground and first floor. Dining room adjoining the very well equipped kitchen. The house was very clean with lovely linen and towels provided. Plenty of room for sitting in all of the areas - very spacious house. Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfortable beds. Bathrooms on ground and first floor - en suite. All mod cons! KitchenVery useable kitchen - was a joy to cook in as was very well equipped with beautiful individual huge pasta bowls and serving dishes. Had two sinks, good cooker with gas hobs. Very good for making full meals - which I did a lot with all the lovely local produce from the estate and the local town. Problems or BonusesIt was so good I recommend everyone to go there!!! Homemade jams - made by the lovely lady that rents the place from produce grown at the farmhouse (gorgeous apricot!). Fresh produce brought to us daily - eggs and veg for no cost at all. How very nice everyone was there - it was so refreshing. Agency and Representatives (and price)Konny Fischer loves Caltabellota and is a very sensitive and kind person - she goes very much out of her way to make your holiday something to remember. Easy contact via email and found the place very easily. Konny is German but has lived there a long time - she speaks very good Italian and English and knows everyone! The reality far exceeded the expectation - no words on a website can capture the magic of the place. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, we hope to arrange to go there again with friends - to share the magic surroundings and to see the wonderful people we met again. Have already recommended to friend who has booked. Things to do in this areaFab coastline, lots of Roman remains, interesting towns and villages, beautiful countryside, fabulous people.
