apartments in a Castle, Tuscany Chianti WhenJuly 1999, 1 week LocationMontgufoni is located in the countryside, southwest of Florence. Beautiful views of the Tuscan hillside. A great location for daytrips. Nearby AmenitiesOur first day in we shopped in nearby Montespertoli. After that, we found it much easier to stop at the Coop in San Casciano on our way home from our adventures each day. The House/ApartmentHistorical castle with many apartments and out buildings. Two pools. GardenBeautiful grounds, gardens and two pools. Our kids never tired of exploring the castle and grounds. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasOur apartment was two-story, spacious, with comfortable furniture. We loved the old wooden door through which we entered our apartment. The kitchen (corner) and living room were open to each other with a nice wooden dining room table. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable, decor was tasteful but not overdone. Bathroom was adequate. KitchenWe cooked on several occasions. At times we had to be creative with the pots and pans, but we didn't mind. We brought our own serrated edge knife and cutting board. No ice trays, but we purchased a box of plastic bags (like an ice tray) that you fill with water to make ice cubes - Ghiaccio Pratico. Problems or BonusesSmall problem - our apartment only had two windows, one downstairs and one upstairs, with no cross ventilation. In July it was a little stuffy by bedtime. We purchased a small fan in Siena and were fine after that. Just needed a little something to circulate the air. Agency and Representatives (and price)We were very pleased with the agency. Directions and other useful information was good. The staff at the castle was very helpful and spoke English. The place itself was better than the published information and far exceeded our expectations. Note from Pauline: This estate is great for people with kids. We have several good reviews. You can book directly with them www.montegufoni.it. The web site is in Italian, but they speak English. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? Most definitely! We had a wonderful experience and hated leaving. Things to do in this areaWe took daytrips to San Gimignano, Siena and San Galgano, Volterra, Pienza and Montepulciano, and Vinci. The castle was in easy reach of major motorways so it was possible to do this. Our favorite restaurant was Da Paolo's Trattoria in Bacciano. They were so friendly and great with kids.
