apartments on an estate near Castellina, Tuscany Chianti WhenMarch 2006, 5 days LocationIl Capanno is a wonderful cottage in a working vineyard. The owner Gabrielle was gracious and brought us into his wine cellar, supplied us with several bottles of great wine. The cottage was incredable , what a veiw. The cottage was an old converted grain storage building, but it looked completely renovated with modern baths and kithen. The veiw was to die for. It was 10 min from San Gimignano and 20 min from Florence. It was very easy to get to Florence going north on Auto starda and parking in Piazza Michelangelo (free parking), best veiw of Florence. Nearby AmenitiesYou needed to drive maybe five minutes to small town for food, but well worth it. Several restaurants in the town. Mostly we ate either in the cottage because the view was so great or in the town in which we were sightseeing. The House/ApartmentRenovated grain storage but it was modernized and clean, fireplace modern kitchen and baths, but old world charm. On the estate was the main owners house, several barns anther cottage (1bed/1bath) and an apartment for rent in the main house. GardenIf you like old world charm with quiet and a warm fire this is for you. A stroll down the road gave me unlimited photo shots. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasPerfect for four people, dishes, pots, coffee pot, expresso etc. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds and great baths were very modern. Everything was wonderful. KitchenVery usable; we cooked two nights in the cottage. Problems or BonusesSeveral bottles of wine for us and wood supplied, as requested, for fireplace. Agency and Representatives (and price)Laura was our representative at Doorways ltd, and she was extremely helpful. $814 for five nights. No additional charges. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely Things to do in this areaThis was Tuscany, what can I say, you need two years to visit all the little towns. Certainly Florence was our main destination. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
