2bed/2bath apartment in Positano, Campania

View from the balcony, photo by Philip Comeaux

When

April 23-26, 2006, 3 nights

Location

Centrally located in a very nice area of Positano, the beach, stores, and restaurants are very nearby.

Nearby Amenities

There is a wonderful grocery store very nearby, and the beach is also a short walk, where you find several places to eat/drink. One advantage of "Casa Sara" is that the owner also owns a restaurant on the beach, where renters will receive a 15% discount off the bill.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is a single-unit property, but as with all of Positano, in a pretty densely populated area. It is apparent that the apartment has recently been renovated, as it is in very good shape. It is very quiet, and also spacious, with a master bedroom (king bed) & ensuite bath on the ground floor, and a second bedroom (two twins) on the second floor. There is also a 2nd bath downstairs and off the foyer, and a nice kitchen with all of the necessary equipment. The living room is also on the 1st floor, and is also quite spacious, and has a very comfortable sofa & loveseat combo. Beautiful ceramic flooring is found throughout the 1st floor, while very nice wood flooring covers the stairs and the entire 2nd floor. Both the master bedroom and living room open up onto the terrace.

Garden

There is a fantastic, private, terrace, with SUPERB views of the village, beach and ocean! It is also quite spacious, and contains a large ceramic-top table (made by the owner's family), as well as a gas B-B-Q grill. Its has terra cotta tile for flooring, and I beleive a shower, though we did not use it.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Overall the furniture was very nice and comfortable, especialy the furniture in the living room which was very comfortable. The apartment was VERY clean upon our arrival, and was set-up to our requests.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The only (minor) complaint we had about the bedrooms was the bed in the master bedroom, which was very firm. Ikea-style furniture, but actually nice, and more than adequate. The two bathrooms were also very nice, clean, modern, etc.

Kitchen

The kitchen was very well equipped, with plenty of pots/pans, tableware, etc. Nice fridge, stove and washing machine, as well.

Problems or Bonuses

The owner, Sara, was a very pleasent and a nice person to do business with. She was very helpful, but not intrusive, and helped make our stay very enjoyable. We had hired a limo service from Naples, and she was able to speak to the driver to give him precise directions to the apartment.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

All contact with the agency was pleasent and helpful. They 'reality' of the apartment -vs- what is on the website is just about 100%! My only quibble would be that for those not used to it, there are LOTS of stairs involved in all of Positano, and just walking back up from the beach is quite a work out! Not a deal breaker, but those out of shape should be aware!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would VERY MUCH recommend "Casa Sara" to anyone looking for a rental in Positano. It is quite pricey, but then again anything in Positano will be expensive, especially something of quality like "Casa Sara." Worth every penny, and we will definelty be back in the years to come!

Things to do in this area

Our favorite activity in Positano had to be just sitting on the terrace, sipping wine and enjoying the spectacular views. After three days in Venice, followed by a week in Rome, we were ready for a change of pace, and were glad to have Positano to relax before heading back home. Another thing we really enjoyed was the great little grocery store right near the apt: the staff was polite and helpful, and although very small the store had all the necessary supplies. They even were happy to give us cooking tips when we told them what we wanted to cook some 'local' cuisine! And definitely check into the local wine: they were only 3.50 euros a bottle, and quite good.
