Review 2070: Bed & Breakfast Association of Rome, Cod. 085 Testaccio-Vespucci

Review by Elizabeth from NY

2bed/2bath apartment in Testaccio, Rome

May 6-May 8 2006, 3 nights

The apartment is located just outside of the City Center in the area known as Testaccio. The location was quiet and primarily residential. It was in an apartment complex with several other full-time tenants. We had orignally planned to stay in the City Center, but we ended up realizing that Testaccio is the best of both worlds. It is a short distance from all of Rome's main attractions, so it is easy to be a "tourist" during the day. BUT...it is so enjoyable to come home to the laid back atmosphere of Testaccio at night and dine with the locals (not tourists) at the restaurants in the area. Also, we were too beat to go out and party, but there is supposed to be great night life in the area. Lots of boutique shopping nearby, too!

Nearby Amenities

The apartment was only a 20-minute (very pleasant) walk to all of Rome's famous landmarks. There was a supermarket located a block away, as well as a bank with a cash machine. There were numerous restaurants that were amazing AND affordable, located just a block or two from the apartment.

The House/Apartment

The apartment complex was extremely quaint, and the apartment itself was in EXCELLENT shape. It was relatively quiet (especially compared to the City Center) with just a bit of street noise filtering in through the windows. The apartment complex had a small lift/elevator that was perfect for getting our luggage upstairs and fit about four adults.

There was a shared garden area inside of the apartment complex with sitting room. It was beautifully landscaped with trees and flowers. Very peaceful and pretty.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very clean and spacious. There was MORE than enough room for four people. I believe that the couch may be a sofa bed, but I am not completely sure. There were thre formal dining chairs around the dining room table and two smaller fold-out chairs. There were also additional chairs located in the bedrooms.

The bedrooms were nicely decorated and the beds were comfortable. The mattresses were a bit on the firm side, but I actually prefer a harder mattress. There were extra pillows, pillow-cases, and sheets stored in the apartment. There were two good-sized bathrooms that were very clean and had plenty of hot water.

The kitchen was small but usable with tons of plates, glasses, pots, pans, and silverware. There was a even a washing machine located in the kitchen! We ate out at the local restaurants every night we stayed there, but you could definitely prepare a full meal at the apartment. There was even olive oil, salt, and coffee that had been provided.

Problems or Bonuses

NO BAD SURPRISES! The best surprises were a hairdryer located in the apartment and a couple of umbrellas for use during bad weather. Also, the fact that four of us showered in a row and we never ran out of hot water! The apartment is also absolutely adorable and it really felt like were were coming back to a home each evening. The cleanliness was also a huge plus!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The B&B Association of Rome was extremely accomodating and professional throughout our booking, providing us with recommendations on apartments to meet our needs and consistently communicating with us in a timely manner.

Our host (the apartment owner) was AWESOME! He spoke English and went above and beyond his call of duty. He brought over a map of the city and sat down with us for about 30 minutes drawing out two different recommended "walks" for us to take through the city (starting from the apartment). We followed his advice and were not disappointed! He also extended the courtesey of saying that we could call him at ANY time on his cell phone if we had concerns or questions. Furthermore, he took us around the apartment and explained how everything worked, from the dishwasher to opening the windows. Very, very, nice man! We were happy to give him our business.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would DEFINITELY stay here again. In fact, I can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else if I were to visit Rome again. I would be VERY disappointed if the apartment were already booked during a future visit. And YES, I would recommend this place to my family and my best friends. Big thanks to our host and to the B&B Association of Rome!

Things to do in this area

ALL three of the restaurants that we ate at were fantastic, although I can't recall the names. Honestly, just step out of the apartment and explore the neighborhood. The atmosphere of the area and local shops will not disappoint!
