1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

When

May 2006, 7 days

Location

The biggest plus for this apartment is the location. Located about a block from Campo de Fiori, the apartment is in the heart of the "Historical Center" of Rome. If you want to experience real Rome living – antiquities, shops, restaurants etc. this is a perfect location

The Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Piazza Farnese were less than ten minutes walk. Fontana Di Trevi, Piazza Di Spagna, Foro Romano, Colosseo were about twenty minutes away and the Vatican was about half an hour walk.

Sometimes in the evening we would walk along the Tiber or cross over to Trastevere which was only a few minutes away.

Nearby Amenities

Everything we needed was right there - grocery store, bakery, restaurants, shops are all on the streets just outside the apartment.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is bright, clean and well cared for in an historical building that has been renovated in the last few years giving it an attractive street façade. It was very quiet; I think there was one other holiday rental in the whole building.

The apartment is very comfortable and functional for two people.

Garden

Although there was no outside sitting area, we would come back after a day of sightseeing, open the big windows in the living room and bedroom and sip our wine as the sun came in like it was an outside deck.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is in good shape, is comfortable, with pleasant, simple decor. The high ceilings and white walls create a sense of space and airiness. Seating for four at the dining table plus a couch and two chairs in the living room area were adequate. We were pleased that Massimo had left some lovely jazz CD's for us to enjoy.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The king-size bed was comfortable and the bedroom was quite large with lots of storage. The bathroom is small but includes a sink, toilet, bidet and shower.

Kitchen

The kitchen was very usable with a gas cook-top, new refrigerator and a dishwasher. It also included a toaster oven and North American style coffee-maker. We were pleased that it had a clothes washer/dryer as we had been staying on the Aolian Islands in southern Italy for two weeks and needed to wash clothes.

Problems or Bonuses

Surprises:

1. The location is better than I expected. I would say you would be hard pressed to find a better area for enjoying Rome than this area around Campo De Fiori.

2. Although the apartment is right in the middle of local city life, it was quiet in the evenings and very quiet at night and early morning. We closed the windows and large inside shutters for sleeping and street noise was never an issue during our week’s stay.

Bonuses:

1. The friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, Massimo and Biancamaria. They met us at the apartment to let us in and orient us to the neighbourhood. They gave us many good tips for eating, shopping and sightseeing and they arranged a car for us to pick us up at 4:40 am for an early flight from Rome. They also provide a cell phone for our personal use and so that they can stay in touch. Extra touches such as the hairdryer and umbrella were a bonus.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We stayed May 4 to May 11, 2006.. All financial dealings were explained at the outset and were carried out in a professional manner. Massimo and Biancamaria communicate effectively in English.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely - without any qualifications.

As we were flying home we were thinking, "When can we come back to this amazing city and stay in this apartment?"

Things to do in this area

Ancient Rome is just around the corner and Renaissance Rome is everywhere. There are museums, galleries, palazzos, piazzas, and ancient ruins everywhere, all in a real life Rome of shops, restaurants, and busy streets.

Highlights:

There were many highlights for us but among the most memorable are the beauty of the Pantheon, the energy and life of Campo De Fiori, Gallery Borghese, the Vatican, and just walking around and living in Rome for the week.
