1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome WhenAugust 2005, 12 days LocationThis is a fantastic, charming, elegant, delightful apartment close to the Campo dei Fiori in central Rome. The apartment has lots of light, but very effective blinds if necessary, and is tastefully furnished. It feels wonderful to be there, and relaxing to return to after the fun of exploring Rome, in whatever way you are doing it. The apartment is well equiped in every respect and it is close to some very good unpretentious local shops in addition to some fine local restaurants, some justly famous and some less well known but extremely good as everyday local places to east. It is hard to imagine a better place to stay in Rome. Nearby AmenitiesPlaces for coffee, groceries and restaurants are within a minute's walk from the apartment. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is in a well-maintained and restored 13th-century palace: only the Italians know how to do this so well. The original beam structure and some of the decorations are visible. The building is quiet; there are a few other apartments in which mostly families live. A central living room and dining area provides access to a bedroom (again with excellent high ceiling beams), a tastefully modernized bathroom (also with another door from the bedroom) and a kitchen. A lift means one doesn't have to walk up the stairs every time or with a heavy load. GardenThe square below the apartment would be the place to sit; many locals and visitors sit here in the several cafe forecourts. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasTotally well furnished, and indeed enough furniture; it is hard to imagine more than two people staying here or perhaps a couple with a young child. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the bedrooms nice. The apartment has one bathroom. KitchenKitchen well supplied and equipped: good to work in. Problems or BonusesNo surprises either good or bad. Agency and Representatives (and price)We rented directly from the owners: Massimo de Majo, Biancamaria (and their charming daughter Delfina). They are more than mere hosts, but remarkable, interesting, cultured, creative people who became out friends, and indeed on one occasion entertained us in the country outside Rome. This apartment is easily the best vacation apartment I have rented in some twenty years of doing so, and on many of those occasions in Italy. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Totally. Things to do in this areaThis is the heart of old Rome - it's one of the main reasons why people visit the city, and has a great 'local' feel to it, so it is a good place for a base, from which to explore the rest of the city.
