Review 2105: Rentvillas, Mulino sul Colle (aka Mulinmaria)

Review by Mary from US

3bed/2bath villa, near Arezzo, Tuscany East

May 2006, One week

The villa was about five miles south of Arezzo, just off the main road between Cortona and Arezzo. The location was private and lovely. There were other houses in the general area, but the villa was extremely private and set amid olive groves and gardens.

Nearby Amenities

Driving was preferable as the main road was rather busy. There was a grocery within a five-minute drive, very accessible. There were many restaurants within 15 to 20 minutes, including those in Arezzo.

The House/Apartment

The villa had been a flour mill built in 1810. It has been lovingly restored over the past 20 years by the owners. The living area and kitchen were on the main level, and the three bedrooms on the lower level. The house and its furnishings are in excellent condition.

There are several outside terraces which are private and delightful, with pots of flowers around, and flower and vegetable gardens nearby. There is also a waterfall and stream, very picturesque. A bell in the tower of the church up the hill chimed the hour.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in excellent shape and was comfortable. The house was spotless. There was plenty of seating for all.

The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were fine. The bathrooms were up-to-date but small by American standards.

The kitchen was great with marble countertops and halogen counter lighting. There were plenty of pots, pans, plates, glasses, etc. Cooking a full meal in the kitchen was easy.

Problems or Bonuses

No particular surprises, the house and setting exceeded our expectations.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We had good service and excellent information from the agency whom we booked through. They were accomdating and helpful. The onsite person was the owner, Nadia, who was charming, welcome and informative. Her English was good. She teated us like guests, not paying tenants.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay there again! We have already recommended it to friends and will continue to do so. It was a wonderful experience.

Things to do in this area

We especially enjoyed Le Celle, St. Francis' rural retreat near Cortona. It is a monastary now, and is somewhat off the tourist track. Both Cortona and Arezzo are delightful for a day visit. Florence is an hour away by train from Arezzo. The tiny hill town of Civitella across the Val di Chiana was charming.
