Review by Elizabeth from Canada

5bed/7bath house near Lucolena, Tuscany Chianti

We all loved it. It is stunningly beautiful and very spacious. We had eight in our party and didn't even use the upstairs at all. The location is very quiet except for birdsong and the grounds are lovely. It is close to trains, sightseeing and shopping.

Nearby Amenities

You do need to drive for groceries. Figline is best but you can go to Greve too. The nearest restaurant (and best) is Locanda Borgo Antico just past Lucolena (about 2 km).

The House/Apartment

The building is in excellent shape and very quiet. Besides the main villa, there are two rental apartments behind (which share a different pool than the villa). There are three floors including an upstairs with a gamesroom, bedroom and two bathrooms, a main floor with four bedrooms and a living area, and the downstairs with a massive kitchen, eating area and laundry room.

The backyard is gorgeous -- well treed, swimming pool, and an outdoor grill. Wonderful view and lots of birds, including a cuckoo!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is in good shape, yes, and pretty comfortable. There are plenty of chairs.

The beds were comfortable but my taste in pillows runs to fluffy feather ones, not the flat thin ones here. Pretty small complaint for so much beauty. bathrooms plentiful (each room has their own) and very clean and modern.

Kitchen is huge and pretty well stocked with dishes and pans. Bring your own spices and sugar as the basics are not provided. We cooked lots of good meals here!

Problems or Bonuses

The pillows were thin and the lack of soap!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency was great. The onsite people, Christina and Leonardo are wonderful and their English impressive. The information is accurate on the website but the pictures do not do it justice.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This is the second time I have stayed here and I am not only trying to bring my best friend, I am trying to bring my entire family sometime soon.

Things to do in this area

There is so much to enjoy. Lots of good wineries around but call first to book an appointment. We recommend Carpineto, a winery, only 1.8 km down the road for tastings.

You can visit some of the closer towns Greve, Panzano, San Gimignano, Cortona, Florence. It is in the middle of Chianti country so the countryside is rolling and covered with vineyards. The nearest small town is Lucolena, definitely within walking distance, only about 1.5 km away. You can see it from the villa.

The best restaurant is Locanda Borgo Antico, just past Lucolena. The food is fantastic and the prices unbelievable. Dinner for eight with wine was only 200 Euros. Try the blue cheese risotto, you will not be sorry. They have olive oil here too.

Shop in Figline at the Coop, there are good prices and excellent selection. Keep in mind that you should wear the plastic gloves provided when choosing fruits and veggies, and remember to weigh them and get a price sticker before getting into the check-out line. The machine is easy to follow as it has pictures of the produce if you don't know the Italian names. In Greve there is an excellent wine tasting place where you can taste over 100 wines and olive oils. There is also an excellent butcher in Greve.
