Review 2145: Rentvillas, La Fortezza

Review by GV from France

2bed/1bath apartment in Monticiano, Tuscany South

May 2006, 1 week

The villa is located in a tiny little village. It was a lovely location built into the walls of the village. The area was very peaceful although a little far from the main sights of Tuscany. Perfect for a relaxing family vacation.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest grocery store was about 5-10 minutes walking through the town. The store is closed on Sundays and after 7PM. There were three or four places to have coffee, beer, wine and a sandwich right in the town. There was a nice family restuarant at the entrance of the town (about 15 minutes walking from the villa).

The House/Apartment

The villa was beautifully maintained and really spacious. It was very quiet with a fantastic view over the hills of Tuscany. The villa has a nice sized living room and a kitchen on the first floor. The kitchen is a great place to sit around the table and relax with a nice glass of wine. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms are big and have comfortable beds. The house is very clean and comfortable. There are even books in English for rainy days.

There is a very nice terrace out back which overlooks the hills of Tuscany. It is very peaceful and open.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was very clean and comfortable. There was plenty of seating for everyone. The only thing missing were wine glasses. We had to drink lovely Chianti Classico out of juice glasses.

The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms nice. Plenty of storage and extra blankets.

The bathroom was nice, it even had a bidet. Make sure to bring toilet paper or buy some at the Coop.

The kitchen was great except there were no basics like salt, pepper, oil and no wine glasses. Everything else was fantastic. Oh but the washer didn't turn on. It might have been our mistake in not knowing how it worked.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency was great. The onsite person was very nice but didn't speak ANY English which made it difficult when we called for directions. We called the 800 number of the agency and they handled everything. Luckily we had a cell phone.

I think the price was good for what we got. I think it was about 750 USD for the week.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would probably choose a more centrally located Villa if I went back to this area. We spent a lot of time in the car going to various towns in Tuscany. I would recommend it for someone who wants to spend more time in the Villa than visiting Tuscany.

If the Villa were closer to Siena and Florence is would be perfect.

Things to do in this area

There is a great Enotecca right in the middle of the town. They have lovely wine tastings and simple food. There is also a nice restaurant in the town; I am not sure of the name.

Everything else requires a car trip.
