5bed/4bath house near Marcialla, Tuscany Chianti

When

June, 2006, 7 days

Location

The house is located in the country about five minutes from the nearest town, Marcialla. Property is about halfway between Siena and Florence. Very private, although owner lives on the property. Absolutely breathtaking views of the countryside.

Nearby Amenities

Grocery stores were about 20 minutes from the house. Eateries in most surrounding towns and we ate at most of them, delightful.

The House/Apartment

The house was built in 1200 and information about it as well as the surrounding countryside and nearby towns was provided by the owner. Property is a working olive grove and vineyard. Owner lives on the property, but the rental house is very private and we rarely saw her. She DID, however, make herself available for any questions or concerns.

Garden

There was a small swimming pool and lawn chairs overlooked the beautiful countryside. Having morning coffee and afternoon cocktails was very enjoyable in this area of the yard. Lots of planters w/overflowing flowers, and the groundskeeper kept everything looking quite lush.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The house was very comfortable and included quite a few antiques. Housekeeper took care of making sure the house was very clean and came on a daily basis to make beds, clean bathrooms and sweep floors. Furniture was in good condition and there were plenty of rooms to explore and enjoy.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms very nice for the most part. Downstairs bath could use a shower curtain around tub. There were six of us and there were plenty of bathrooms for us.

Kitchen

Kitchen is very dimly lit and made cooking a bit difficult in the evening, but we had everything we needed in the way of utensils and pots and pans. Bring your own spices.

Problems or Bonuses

There were geese and chickens on the property. The rooster crowed in the morning but we found it charming and it "fit" the property description. Great views from all the windows. Very charming.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked with Rentvillas and really appreciated all the time and effort that went into matching our needs with the appropriate property. Our representatives were Michelangelo and Patricia and they both went out of their way to accomodate our wants and needs.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay here again, and we are planning another trip to Italy next year. Enjoyed the property very much.

Things to do in this area

You can walk, bike, or travel by car. We explored all surrounding towns on a daily basis. Grocery stores, "Coop" as they are called, are well equipped and relatively easy to find. Invest in good quality maps as they really come in handy. The local townspeople were very generous with giving us directions when needed. Try to speak Italian if possible. We brought "phrase books" and found them quite helpful, although in most areas, there was at least someone that spoke a little English and we got by just fine. They really appreciated our meager attempt to speak Italian.
