Apartments and house on estate near Mercatale di Cortona, Tuscany East

Location

Villa Cuiano is located in the town of Mercatale di Cortona. It's about two miles up a mountain with a narrow unpaved road and plenty of switchbacks but you then make a right onto the property and your jaw drops. You're high in the mountain with the clouds and valley beneath you and off in the distance you can see and hear your neighbors sheep. Ten of us rented two apartments, La Loggia (3bed/2baths) and La Stalletta adjoining La Loggia (2bed/2bath), in this beautiful renovated farmhouse. Large pool and patio area and great views of Castello di Pierle, (Frances Mayes talks about it in her last book). The apartments are well apointed and very comfortable; the mattresses are great. The area is centrally located. We went to Assisi, Cortona, Gubbio, Siena, Camucia and Arezzo and all within decent driving distances.

Nearby Amenities

Had to drive down the mountain for groceries; took about 10 mins from the house.

The House/Apartment

Farmhouse is from the 1800's. In great shape, totally renovated and all you could hear were the birds and the neighbors sheep. Villa Cuiano has five apartments in the main house and another separate small house.

Garden

Beautiful pool and lounging area. Even in October we picked veggies. Too cold for swimming.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Very comfortable and well equipped.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Mattresses nice and firm. Plenty of hot water, even when 10 people had to shower.

Kitchen

Well equipped kitchen.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would go back in a heartbeat.

Things to do in this area

Favorite town is Cortona, only 20 mins away. Trattoria Mimmi's in town, just the best.
