apartment near Duomo, Florence Whenbefore 2000 ReviewMost of our travel in France and Italy has revolved, so to speak, around biking. When we biked in Umbria we came back to a Doorways apartment nearly in the center of Florence. We stayed with another couple for a few days there on the Borgo Pinti, which is a narrow old Florence street hardly five minutes from the Duomo. It was large, quite well furnished and certainly a steal at Florence rates. Beautiful little old coffee shop just across the street and a restaurant we liked more than most of the places we went to in the town. We had a walking tour book and spent most of our days hiking. Florence is so small, really, and it’s so pleasant to explore - where the Brownings stayed, the poets, and of course the pieces of history everywhere. I was practicing my Italian and a priest took us under his wing when we wandered into his small, but of course, ancient chapel. He gently spoke only Italian and showed us the flood damage and drawings made by Crusaders. It was slowly, slowly, slowly being restored.
