Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 2211: InTuscany, Villa Ginevra
3bed/2bath near Cortona, Tuscany East
June 2006, 21 days
The villa was in the country. The property had lots of fruit and olive trees as well as a huge garden. It was well kept.
You had to drive five minutes to the nearest town for groceries and restaurants. Supermarkets (COOP) were 10 minutes away by car.
The house was in very good shape and looked exactly like the pictures on the web. There were no surprises. It was very peaceful and exactly what you expect from a country retreat.
Three bedrooms and one bath upstairs; kitchen, living and dining rooms and bathroom on main floor.
There was also a small villa on the property but was hidden from view. We were also completely separate from the main villa.
We had our own pool. There were two outside seating areas. The one near the house could seat eight and was great for meals. There were lots of towels so we could use some as pool towels.
The furniture was comfortable and quite sufficient. The house was clean and well kept. There was an iron and an ironing board.
Beds were very comfortable. The bedrooms were all different and very nice. The bathrooms were fine. The owner added flowers in a lovely vase in each bedroom. Very welcoming.
We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. We did cook a few full meals without problems. There were sufficient pots and pans. Dishes were in the dining area, which ended up being a great place for them. There were tablecloths and placemats.
Problems or Bonuses
The one bad point were the bugs!! There are no screens on the windows. But this problem was far outweighed by the owner, her family and staff.
We were greeted with warmth and kindness. They were always helpful. We were invited to supper and sat in her home tasting wonderful Tuscan meals with her and her family. It gave us a glimpse into their way of life and made our trip even more special.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency was great. They always promptly replied to my e-mails. They were always helpful and precise. The emergency number really works because we got lost on arrival and they were able to direct us.
All the information on the web is accurate as well as current. I even printed all the info and compared the pictures while we were there. What you see is really what you get. The one thing that was not on the web was the graciousness, generosity and kindness of the owner and her family.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I will definitely recommend it to all I meet. All of us will treasure our vacation and part of it was the villa, its location and the people. I would love to return and maybe I will one day.
Things to do in this area
This location is between 1/2 to 1 hour away from tourist sites like Siena, San Gimignano, Pienza, Montepulciano, Perugia and Lake Trasimeno. We took the train into Florence and Rome. Train travel is very easy. We loved exploring all the little towns around and just sitting in a café and watching people.
