Review 2230: Le Manzinaie, House
apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South
May, 2006, 2 weeks
We had our own little house in the countryside of Tuscany, close to the town of Montepulciano. It was only about 20 minutes to the train station, a 2 1/2 hour drive to Rome, a few hours drive to many wonderful little towns of Tuscany.
There was a grocery store that was a five-minute drive. The store had wonderful breads and produce. There were many places to go for the local wines. There was a wonderful flea market the last day we were in Montepulciano which was so authentic and so much fun.
There were at least four very good family-owned restaurants very close to Le Manzinaie. We did have a hard time finding it the first night we got there, but after that no problem.
The little house we rented had a living room and kitchen, and bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs there was a second bedroom and a full bath. The house was very clean and extremely well decorated. Marzia and her husband Fiore had restored an old farm. The grounds were beautiful. Her roses were to die for. She had a wonderful vegetable garden and fruit orchard. We were not there for harvest but they give their produce to their guests.
Each week the hosts invite all of the guests to come to their home for dinner. Incidentally, they do live right on the grounds and are always there to serve. They are absolutely wonderful people. They have just one very lovely daughter and the sweetest dog, Rufus. I fell in love with Rufus when I was there. To get back to their dinner for their guests, they serve the most wonderful dinner to all of their guests, complete with cocktail hour and then many courses. There is no way anyone could eat all of the wonderful food they serve. And the comraderie we had with all of the guests was also wonderful.
Marzia is a great cook, but the most important part is, she and Fiore, her husband, are so very welcoming. Every morning he would make us a cappucino and deliver it to our little house. Or he would serve it to us on our own private little patio.
As I stated above, we had our own private little patio and little yard. There was a beautiful swimming pool very close also. And the grounds around the entire estate were so very beautiful.
The furniture was very comfortable and very cute. It was extremely clean. There was enough of everything for everyone.
The beds were comfortable, the best we had in Greece and Italy. The bathrooms were large and very clean and very new. The linens were very nice too.
We had a kitchen that we used every morning and several times for making our own meals. Everything we needed was there. They didn't forget anything. And we could look out the window of the kitchen as you cook at all of their beautiful flowers.
Problems or Bonuses
We got lost the first night. Marzia and her daughter drove to the expressway so we could follow them back. We thought that was so nice.
Also, we certainly didn't expect the wonderful dinners they served to their guests. It was probably the most wonderful evening of our vacation.
They put together a great itinerary for their guests suggesting restaurants in the general area and directions to the towns around and also directions as to how to get to Rome, Venice, Sorrento.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
This was not through an agency. We just happen to find their website and after reading the reviews decided to rent it.
We would highly recommend this wonderful "bed and breakfast" to all of our friends. It was an ansolutely fabulous place and experience. We felt Le Manzinaie was our home away from home.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We will probably not get back to Italy, but if we did, we would certainly stay at Le Manzinaie. Only this time we would spend less time going all over Italy and just enjoy our Tuscan home.
