Review 2236: Views on Venice, Ca' Vidal

Review by Susheela from OR

2bed/2bath apartment in San Marco, Venice

June 2006, 5 days

In the San Marco district, right next to the Accademia Bridge. Fabulous location -- could walk to almost everything, with a vaporetto stop right across from the canal for those areas we couldn't reach on foot.

Nearby Amenities

Just minutes from a campo with lots of cafes and an excellent bakery. Five to 10 minute walk to several grocery and produce stores. Twenty minute walk to the supermarket on the Zattere.

The House/Apartment

Lovely well maintained building with elevator. The apartment is on the third floor. Lots of character, with wood floors, peaked ceilings, and original wood beams. Large, open plan living room, dining room and kitchenette with windows opening right onto the Grand Canal. Two very comfortable bedrooms, one with queen bed and one with twins. Two full bathrooms, the larger one with a washing machine.

No outdoor area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was comfortable and in good shape. Apartment was clean and well maintained. Everything worked, including the airconditioning, which was critical -- temperatures were in the 90s. The living room had two sofas, an upholstered chair, and coffee table. The dining table comfortably seated six, and there was an additional small table in the kitchen area.

We found the beds too hard, but that was true for most of the places in which we stayed on this five week trip. Could have used more/fluffier pillows. Bathrooms were great, clean and fully functional.

The kitchen was equipped with refrigerator, stovetop, oven, and dishwasher. Plenty of dishes, and pots and pans adequate for simple meals. It was not a kitchen I would have used for complicated meals, but served our needs just fine.

Problems or Bonuses

Photos on agency website were accurate, and conveyed the look and feel of the apartment. The spaciousness was a very pleasant surprise; it really was very large compared to apartments we've rented in other cities.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency was excellent. All our dealings in setting up the reservation were by email, and they were very responsive. Gave us recommendations on where to park. Agency representative met us at a nearby vaporetto stop and took us to the apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Things to do in this area

Walked, walked, walked. Tried to get out of the touristed areas, and spent time wandering around Dorsoduro; easy to do, as it's just across the bridge. Eating on the Zattere was great; we ate at a somewhat mediocre pizza place there, but La Piscina is highly recommended and in a great waterfront setting. The Secret Itineraries tour of the Doge's Palace is very worthwhile.
