4bed/3bath house near Todi, Umbria WhenJune 2006, 1 week LocationIn the countryside near Todi, which was about a 10 minute drive away. Very private location. Easy driving access to lots of towns in Umbria/Tuscany. Nearby AmenitiesYou had to drive. The nearest grocery stores were about 10 minutes away, and the nearest restaurants were in Todi. The House/ApartmentBuilding was a converted farm house. Very peaceful and quiet, apart from the usual country noises -- roosters, dogs, cicadas. House was in excellent shape. Ground floor had kitchen and dining area with a large farmhouse table, a nice living room, and a bath with shower and washing machine. Second floor had a little foyer space, a balcony overlooking the pool, two bedrooms, one with an attached bath. Third floor had two bedrooms and a bath. GardenLovely outdoor area off the living room, with a small rose covered arbor with round table underneath, and then a pool surrounded by flower beds. Great view from pool out over olive trees and hillside. Very spacious, open feel. There was also a small patio area off the kitchen with a stone table, walls covered with jasmine -- very pretty, but it looked out over driveway and didn't catch much breeze, so we did not use it much. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was in good shape, comfortable and clean. Living room had plenty of seating -- two sofas, and I think two or three upholstered chairs. Plenty of chairs at the dining table, but we ate all our meals outside. In general, the indoor living space was adequate, but might have been crowded for the eight of us if we had all been indoors all the time, but we weren't. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were fine, bedrooms were pretty, and there were enough bathrooms for us. The second floor arrangement (one bath was attached) was fine for us since we shared it with our children, but would not have worked if the other bedroom on that floor had been occupied by another couple. We didn't use the shower on the ground floor; that bath was used for the washing machine and toilet only. Baths were all clean, nice, in good condition. KitchenVery usable country style kitchen with stone counter and open shelving covered by curtains under the counter. Plenty of pots, pans, and dishes. Only reason we didn't always enjoy cooking was the weather; it was hot indoors by the end of the day. But we still cooked full meals for eight several times. Outdoor grill was key. Problems or BonusesNothing major. As said above, we ended up eating all all our meals outside at the table near the pool, which was smaller than the one outside the kitchen and a little tight for eight. Chairs there were also not that comfortable. But it was not a big deal. Agency and Representatives (and price)Agency was great. Kimberlie provided lots of information, including a quite comprehensive handbook to Umbria. She arranged for the purchase of groceries for our first day, as well as a case of wine. The agency will also arrange for wine tastings, cooking service, etc. Our onsite contact was Andreina, who met us at the house, showed us around, and came and cleaned three times during the week. She didn't speak English, but hand gestures and our minimal Italian worked. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes. Things to do in this areaVisited Todi, Assissi, Perugia, Orvieto, Gubbio, Cortona...Ate good food everywhere, but no standouts.
