Review 2247: Italy-Accom, Apartment Rialto

Review by Renahen from CA

2bed/1.5bath apartment near Rialto bridge, Venice

July 2006, 4 nights

The apartment is a 3-minute walk from the Rialto Bridge, but it is hidden away in a small side street in a quiet building, so we were able to get away from the July crowds. The area was very convenient to shops, restaurants, Piazza San Marco, and the vaporetto.

Nearby Amenities

There is a lovely pastry shop that makes great cappucini just a five-minute walk from the apartment. Next to this shop was a small grocery store. We could also walk to a produce market, as well as any number of restaurants.

The House/Apartment

The building is old but in fine shape. The only time we heard noise was the night Italy won the World Cup; it was very exciting! There appeared to be, perhaps, three or four other apartments in the building. The apartment consists of a small but pretty well equipped kitchen, a large living/dining room, a master bedroom with a large full bath, a very small single bedroom and a tiny half bath. There is an air-conditioning unit in the living room that does a good job of cooling the apartment, although the location of the master bedroom made it a little harder to cool. Nevertheless, we slept fine even in the July heat.

There is no outdoor sitting area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was fine. It would have been nice to have a comfortable armchair in addition to the sofa. The apartment was clean and the bathrooms were modern. Plenty of seating at the dining table.

The beds were comfortable. The master bedroom was large and had excellent lighting. The small bedroom was VERY small, but fine for one person. The master bath was large, well-lit and modern. The half bath was amazingly small, but modern and adequate for our needs. I have just written the rental agency to inform them that their website states: "There are two bathrooms, both with shower, WC and bidet." I hope that they will change that description so as not to mislead other potential renters.

The kitchen was usable. We cooked a number of meals there and were satisfied with the equipment. There is a small fridge and a small dishwasher, as well as a four-burner stove. Because of the size, we all couldn't be cooking at once, but we managed.

Problems or Bonuses

The only bad surprise was that we didn't have the two full baths we expected.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency was fine, but not outstanding. The onsite person was American, so language was not a problem. As mentioned already, the apartment was as advertised with the exception of the misinformation about the bathrooms. We paid approximately 155 euros per night, and that was split among the three of us--all in all, a good deal, we felt.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay again and would recommend it with only a few reservations. It is a terrific apartment for a couple or for a couple traveling with a child. It's definitely not big enough for two couples unless one couple does not mind sleeping on the sofabed in the living room. The location, the privacy and the air-conditioning all recommend it, in my opinion.

Things to do in this area

We walked to the Piazza San Marco and the Peggy Guggenheim House (wonderful!) Its proximity to the vaporetto makes it easy to get all around the city. We walked and walked and walked and always found it easy to get back to our apartment for a rest.
