Review 2258: Owner, Forum Penthouse (#53928)
3bed/3bath apartment near Largo di Torre Argentina, Rome
July 2006, 1 Week
The apartment is on the top floor of the block (no elevator) and looks out over the Largo di Torre Argentina, right in the heart of the centre of Rome. Five minutes walk to the Pantheon, Roman Forum and the Campo dei Fiori, ten minutes to the Piazza Navona, fifteen to the Colloseum and Trastevere. Largo Argentina is a main interchange and buses go directly from there to the Vatican, Spanish Steps etc.
Largo di Torre Argentina is a very busy square with ancient ruins of three temples in the centre - always lots of traffic but noise was not a problem on the fourth floor.
Two supermarkets within a couple of hundred metres plus all the normal Roman delis in the streets around. Three coffee places on the Largo Argentina and the best coffee in Rome (Caffe Sant'Eustachio) only five minutes walk. Too many restaurants in the area to list! Worth mentioning the take away Pizzeria on the ground floor of the building, friendly staff and excellent value for a quick meal to take up to the apartment!
The apartment is on the top floor of one of the old Rome apartment blocks - about 70 steps with no elevator. Well maintained and clean, very much a private apartment with the owner's books and pictures in all the rooms. Three bedrooms each with its own bathroom, air-contitioned throughout. Quite steep steps to get to the bedrooms/bathrooms.
Furniture was fine, everything was well maintained and clean. Big living room, and separate enterance hall and dining room with large glass topped table.
Beds hard but comfortable. Double bed in each room, one vey large. Two of the bedrooms a bit small with small bathrooms - easy to knock the taps while turning round in the shower. Main bedroom large with a free standing bath (in addition to shower room) at one end. Plenty of hanging space and shelves.
Excellent, fully equiped kitchen. Stove (aka hob), oven, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. Plenty of plates and pots and pans. Note for English visitors - no kettle, but no problem boiling water on the hob. Kitchen light and airy, fine for cooking a proper meal.
Separate utility room with washing machine/tumble drier, iron and ironing board.
Problems or Bonuses
No cable/satellite TV (listed on web site) but not a problem with all of Rome to watch.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Very easy dealing with the owner - good English - replied quickly to questions. This apartment is also available through Roman Reference (#188) and they provide the on-site service. Enzio met us as arranged, showed us round, answered questions, handed over the keys, took the final payment (in cash) etc. Spoke good English.
Price as on VRBO page but discount given for late booking (three weeks before travel).
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes, would definitely stay there again. No hesitation in recommending this apartment.
Things to do in this area
Too many to mention - this is right in the centre of Rome!
