Review 2259: Rentvillas, Palazzo Torrigiani - Donizetti

Review by Carmen from GA

3bed/2bath apartment in Oltrarno, Florence

June 2006, one month

I loved the area where the Palazzo Torrigiani is located. The Palazzo is situated in the Oltrarno district of Florence. The views from the Palazzo are incredible!! The Arno in all its glory is across the street, the Ufizzi is in front and the Ponte Vecchio is less than half a block away. The sunsets from the Ponte Vecchio are incredible and seeing each sunrise reflected in the Arno from the privacy of your own balcony was quite a luxury.

Nearby Amenities

The apartment is in the center of all the activities without being overwhelming. You are close to all the restaurants, the internet, and the grocery stores. The museums and places of interest are all within walking distance and at night you have so many places to go that sometimes it is difficult to make a decision; Many of the activities are free such as the concerts in St. Stefano, the concerts on the Ponte Vecchio and in the Palazzo Vecchio, and the activities in the Piazzale Michelangelo.

The House/Apartment

The Palazzo Torrigiani-Donizetti dates back to the 15th century. The apartment where we stayed was ample and beautiful. I was surprised by how well equipped the kitchen was, everything I needed was there. There were two very big and comfortable bathrooms. The three bedrooms were airy and bright, two of the bedrooms faced the Arno River, one of the bedrooms even had a balcony which we enjoyed tremendously at sunrise and at sunset time. The dining room had beautiful furniture. The only unpleasant surprise was the living room furniture; it needs to be replaced.

I think that the location of the apartment is incredible because it is in the south side of the Arno riverm, all the tourists tend to congregate on the north side of the river; therefore, you are close to everything but at the same time you are leaving behind all the noise and hussle of the northern side of the Arno. I was able to sleep with my windows opened and I enjoyed very peaceful nights.

There was not a garden nor a pool but I would not have changed my view of the Arno river for anything in the world. The balcony off one of the bedrooms was a place where we tended to congregate as a family, the views were incredible; to the left, the Ponte Vecchio, accross the river the Uffizi Gallery, to the right the hills surrounding Florence and right below us the beautiful Arno.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very clean, comfortable and beautiful. The furniture in the bedrooms and dining room were very elegant. The furniture in the living room was comfortable but very old. The kitchen was very comfortable with all the modern conveniences and enough dishes and pans to feed a big family.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful, airy, big and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable.

I enjoyed the kitchen very much. Everything I needed was there; there was even a dishwasher. I loved the big table in the kitchen for informal family gatherings and meals.

Problems or Bonuses

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed being in the apartment, enjoying the view and cooking Italian dishes for my family and friends.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We stayed in the apartment at the Palazzo Torrigiani for a month during June 2006. My family and I loved our stay and it was very difficult to come back home. The agents of Rentvillas in California and in Florence were very helpful and professional. The onsite person at the Palazzo spoke English and was very helpful in every way.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would love to go back to Palazzo Torrigiani. My stay in Florence was beautiful and very relaxing. The views from the Palazzo are incredible, the location is perfect and the apartment itself is very comfortable.

The agents from Rentvillas were very helpful and professional. I would recommend to everyone a long, relaxing vaction at Palazzo Torrigiani.

Things to do in this area

We enjoyed very much walking around Florence, visiting museums and churches. At night it was difficult to decide where to go to because there were many activities to choose from. It is important to check out the free concerts at St. Stefano (by the Ufizzi), the activities in the Piazzale Michelangelo and the concerts at night in the Ponte Vecchio and in the Palazzo Vecchio. Do not forget to greet the sunset every night at the Ponte Vecchio, check the time, when we were there in June the sunset was at 8:30.

We took advantage of the weekend rates at Europacar and rented a car for the weekends we were there. We visited Cinque-Terra, Assisi, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Fiesole, Perugia and Cortona. The countryside around Florence is beautiful.
