Review 2280: Rental in Rome, Vicky Penthouse
1bed/1bath apartment near Cavour metro, Rome
August 2006, 4 days
The vicky penthouse apartment is in Rome, location wise quite convinent (near the Termini and other public transportation). It's in a building which is located in a nice and safe area.
Easy to get groceries as the supermarket is just about five minute walk away.
The building is a historical building in Ok shape, peaceful and quiet apartment I would say. It's a duplex place with two beds on the second floor and living/kitchen/bathroom on the first floor. There maybe about 10 aparmtments in the same building.
There is a terrace outside but not properly maintained, as was told by the owner that its a public area so nobody is taking care of it. No pool.
Furniture is very simple but okay, sofa bed downstairs not comfortable.
The biggest problem with this apartment is cleaniness. The time we moved in, as we were all tired, we didn't check it thoroughly but later we found the owner didn't clean it properly. The bed sheet downstairs on the sofa bed was not clean (apparently didn't get washed from the last or even the last last last whatever guest).
There were food remainders on the floor. The biggest problem was ants. We were shocked to see so many ants in the apartment the next morning, even on the bed upstairs around us as if we were living in an ants home. It surely is because of the total unclean condition in the house, which the ants sneak in. Don't think the owner cleaned it properly as the time we moved in was 8pm in the evening and she seems to have just started cleaning the apartment. The linen was changed but there was no blanket. The blanket she later gave us was not clean.
I didn't report it to the owner/agency during my stay as the owner was out during the weekend for a short tour (that's what we were told) and nobody picked up the phone at the agency when I called. So I left a note on the table to the owner to remind the owner.
Beds upstairs are comfortable but not the sofa beds (but that might be the problem with all sofa beds anyway). Although it seems okay but the ant problem destroyed everything.
Kitchen is usable, enough pots and pans and dishes. Quality just okay. We did cook in the kitchen while fighting with the ants.
Problems or Bonuses
Surprised by the lack of cleanliness. Won't recommend it. I didn't move out. As everything was paid in advance already and they had my credit card details. Also I only stayed in Rome for four days and didn't want to spend too much time finding new place or moving from one spot to another.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Rental in Rome was okay although they didn't give us the right contact information for the building. The owner told us that they normally forget to mention which button to press downstairs for the building, so it took us some time to find the owner.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I won't stay there again. I just want to post this message that people know about this. And I do hope the owner of the apartment (not only this, all aparmtent for holiday rental) should keep the apartment clean to rent it out. Otherwise they shouldn't be rented out to travelers.
