Review 2285: At Home in Rome, Avignonesi and Avignonesi II

Review by Poet123 from UK

1bed/1bath and 2bed/2bath apartments near Piazza Barberini, Rome

July 2006, 4 days

These two adjacent appartments sleeping four and six respectively were in a central area of Rome close to the Trevi fountain. We found it an excellent area close to all amenities.

Nearby Amenities

The appartments were in a building one floor up (with elevator) and the ground floor had a small coffee shop selling snacks, meals and drinks at reasonable prices. The staff there were very friendly. Across the stree was a bar The Old Bell with an internet connection and serving good quality international food. Also there were a couple of restaurants in the street, a deli/wine shop and an electrical shop selling adaptors, camera equipment etc. This is a very well located appartment for day to day requirements.

The House/Apartment

It was a typical Roman apartment block, it appeared there were permanent residents as well as our two rentals properties. It was a well maintained building with intercom access and was very secure and safe. It is located on Via Boccacia a small cobbled side street of the main thoroughfare down to the Trevi fountain. The appartments had air conditioning and shutters which eliminated most of the street noise but some noise was still audible but for us that added to rather than detracted from the charms of the appartment as we felt part of the hustle and bustle of the city.

There was no outside space belonging to the appartment but right ouside the entrance was the cafe with an outside seating area where we enjoyed daily breakfast.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture in both appartments was stylish, comfortable and clean. The cleaners did a good job with the living areas and the bathrooms were spotless. There was more than adequate seating/living accom for all guests.

The beds were very comfortable and there was tons of wardrobe space in both bedrooms. The bathrooms were very well equipped and one contained a full size washing machine.

In the larger appartment (Avignonesi II) the kitchen was a good size with seating (in addition to the dining room table/chairs). It was of modern design and contained everything one would need to cook a full meal (we ate out as we spent only four days there). The smaller appartment (Avignonesi) had a small screened kitchen area with microwave, fridge, two ring hob (i.e., stove), sink and adequate cupboard space. This would have been more suited to snacks and breakfast rather than a full meal although it had a full dining suite.

Problems or Bonuses

The appartments were modern in design and had wooden flooring throughout. We found them to be very well designed and spacious. We were very pleasantly surprised by all aspects of these rental properties from location to amenities.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency (we dealt by email with Paola) could not have been more helpful, every enquiry was anwered promptly and helpfully. Paola also arranged our airport pickup, which was on time and at the appointed area. We consider the price paid was very reasonable for the standard of the appartment. We were met on site by a friendly English speaking representative who gave us a very thorough introduction to the appartment, keys, air conditioning etc. We had emergency numbers for the agency, airport pick up, representative who was to meet us in case of problems and we felt very secure in the knowledge that if a problem had occurred we could have sorted it out without too much trouble. In fact everything went smoothly and we had no problems.

On check out we were allowed to retain keys whilst the cleaners were in to allow us to collect luggage closer to our train departure time; we were very glad of this courtesy.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I could recommend this agency and these rental properties to anyone based on our experience and we would certainly stay there again without hesitation. We had originally enquired about a four bedroom appartment in the same area through this agency but between enquiry and my confirming it had been rented for the dates we needed so these appartments were suggested by the agency. With hindsight this turned out to be a beter arrangement for our party of seven as we had the privacy but were literally next door to each other. For elderly/less mobile travellers (we had one in our party) the elevator is directly opposite the doors of both appartments so it is an ideal arrangement.

Things to do in this area

From here we had easy access to all the main tourist sites. The open top bus passed the end of the street and we were close to Via Veneto and 10 mins by taxi to Termini. We walked to the Pantheon in 10 mins. This whole area is well serviced with shops, restaurants, bancomats etc.
