2bed/1bath apartment near San Lorenzo, Florence WhenAugust 2006, 2 nights ReviewWe're a family of five, three kids ages 16-10 that stayed here the first week of August 2006. We really liked this place, great location. I don’t know how the location could be improved. The flat (i.e., Casini apartment), is on the fourth floor, and is a steep walk up but in exchange you get an "over the rooftops" view of the top of the Duomo dome, and it is quiet with soundproof windows. The apartment is very clean and well maintained. The AC units work well. It has two upper lofts, which the kids liked and the couch on lower level sleeps one or two kids. The floors are new hardwood, the walls fresh white plaster, everything looks new. TV with satellite and CNN. The owner is friendly, very business like, and takes credit cards. We got a contract right away via email and I got from them a sense of security and professionalism. It seemed to me that all of Florence in historic center is rather urban in character with shops below and residential above. This street is a pedestrian-only street with lots of activity in the evening, restaurants, retail, coffee, pastries etc. Quiet after 8 or 9pm (at least it was this August). You will have to park a few blocks away and walk in. Follow the signs to “city center.” Two blocks north is the church of san Lorenzo including the street vendor markets, and one block south is the Duomo. Three blocks northwest is the Central market, which is a huge two story upscale food market, great to get breakfast and prosciutto and fresh bread for lunchtime sandwiches. We liked the nearby outdoor café ZaZa for dinner recommended by owner. Uffizi and Academia are an easy walk. If you stay here you might enjoy reading "Brunelleschi’s Dome" by Ross King. Great place.
