3bed/2bath apartment near Vatican, Rome WhenApril 2006, 1 week LocationThe apartment is located on Gulio Cesare, a busy four-lane street. It is close to two different Metro stops (two blocks in either direction) and within walking distance of St. Peters. The area was average, would probably want to stay in an area with more character next time. Nearby AmenitiesThere were coffee shops and restaurants near by and even a small grocery around the corner. All were within walking distance. The House/ApartmentThe building was an old apartment building with typical European feel. The apratment was very large, plenty of room to spread out for five adults. There were at least 30 apartments in the building. GardenWe were on the fifth floor so no outside sitting area, but there was a small piazza below. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was a bit worn but comfortable. Unfortunately, the apartment had not been cleaned (at least not very well) when we arrived. There was still food in the refrigerator (spoiling), a baby bottle in the master bedroom, and ashes in the ashtray. The floor had dust and dirt in all corners. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable, the bedrooms were minimally furnished. The bathroom off the master bedroom had a broken shower head and a rather mildewy smell. KitchenKitchen was small but usable. You could cook a full meal, but we did not. We mostly used the wine glasses and the washer (which was in the kitchen). Problems or BonusesThe outside traffic was nosier than expected. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was pleasant to deal with. They allowed us to only put down 10% for the deposit and pay the rest in cash upon arrival. As with many rental places they did not accept credit cards. They spoke very good English. We were there the week of Easter and we paid 1325 Euros for five people. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would probably not stay here again, as there seem to be so many other places and areas we'd like to stay in Rome on our next visit. We would probably not work with the agency again either. There are too many other great reviews for other agencies/owners. Things to do in this areaWe walked almost everywhere. The Vatican was our main "attraction" for this trip, which was close by. There was plenty of shopping and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk.
