apartments on a farm near Assisi, Umbria WhenJune 2006, 1 Week LocationThis is a really good example of “AgroTourism.” Lots of the farms in Italy seem to offer accommodation as a secondary source of income and this lived up to the publicity and it’s web site (see above). We could identify with every comment made by guests on the site. The Brigolante offers a very tranquil place to stay and enjoy Umbria especially if you are interested to trace the travels of St. Francis. It offers the possibility of self catering or local restaurants for main meals and we chose to do a mixture of both, relying mainly on salads at the farm (local shops provide the means to do this easily in addition to having the run of the farm garden). This allowed a free and easy approach to our days. Our arrival was met with a basket of “goodies” (including local wine) which we had not expected but was a very thoughtful and helpful touch. Rebecca, the host, is extremely helpful and welcoming. Being an American married to an Italian offered the best of all worlds for those of us with little or no ability to speak the language and a constant source of information if needed whilst not being obtrusive if one wanted peace. “Peace” is a common theme as the farm is set well away from main roads or built up areas. In the evening sunsets were glorious and at night there was an amazing display of fireflies to be seen. The farm dogs were friendly and would tag along if you went for a walk but never caused a problem of any kind. The accommodation, in a series of recently renovated farm buildings, was first class including a washing machine and lacked for nothing in terms of cutlery, pots and pans etc. to support preparation of light meals. We would without hesitation try and stay there again next time we go to that part of Italy. Nearby AmenitiesSeveral local restuarants but best selection in nearby Assisi, travel by car needed to all of thse. The House/ApartmentOurs was a small cottage style building based on a rennovated farm building adjacent to the main farmhouse. GardenOutdoor space was shared with other guests. No pool but facilities for barbecue. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasAbsolutely clean and modern facilities. Plenty of room for two in the unit we stayed in and all the others from what other guests said. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedding and bathroom to high standard. KitchenSpotlessley clean and with adequate pots, pans and cutlery. Cooking hob but no oven. Included washing machine. Problems or BonusesWelcome basket upon arrival. Spectacular firefly display at night. Agency and Representatives (and price)Booked direct with owner (Rebecca) who speaks English and was very helpful at all times. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely stay again if in the area and would strongly recommend to anyone wanting a quite base from which to explore Umbria. Things to do in this areaAssisi and everything to do with St Francis. Wonderful coutryside and walks. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
